Hi Guys and Gals! Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and got all the car bits they asked Santa for. The old guy gave the Mrs. and me a new digicam so with the help of our kids I took some pics of my beast as it currently stands. The one of the trans crossmember isn't close enough but shows my recent welding on the ends and one of the channel iron brackets that bolt to the "A" frame. As you can tell from the front view it sits too high so a dropped axle and a rear frame kick will be in the works. Need to mount pedals, master cylinder and steering box, plumb in the front brakes and dump some gears in the trans case and that should do the running gear less the engine which will be rebuilt last. Then it's on to interior, body, and paint. A long way to go yet but at least the body is almost mocked in. Just need to score some splash aprons.
Dave,I was gonna call and see if you were still breathnig!LOL.Haven't heard from you in quite a while.Hows things?Car looks kill.Phone me about dropped axles. Also it looks like I'm buildin a new car,so I'll be looking for some A body parts too.We shouls exchange wishlists!I've got a 31.......Shiny
Pictures look great! Are you using the truck mounts on that transmission case? If so, did you make that cross member, or is that a truck crossmember? I am not wanting to use a 32 K member in my frame set up and so I am going to use the truck mounts on the back of the******* and make my own crossmember. Just looking for ideas and guidance!
Great pics Dave. Glad to see you're making good progress. Keep plugging away, you're not that far away from the big day. Paul
that axle looks a little wide also? The car is coming along nice. Aprons are easy to find on ebay or aftermarket.. I kinda like it without the apron so the axle stands out Shiny, did you sell your ride?
WOW! Thanks guys! Crestliner: It'll have an 8BA flattie with a 4" crank, mild cam and eventually a two deuce manifold. 38 top loader trans case with later gears. The rearend is a totally redone "A" with 3:54 gears. Shiny: Hi Man! Things is good! Yep, I'm still breathin' last time I checked! LOL! How you been? Yeah, I'll be sure to call you about axles (will be looking for a 4" drop with 36 3/8" between perch bolt hole centers) and body parts! Is the '31 the sedan the one you guys got from the up-island swap? Elrod:Yes, I did use the truck crossmember (a '52 F-1) but I BELIEVE the mount is a V8 car one as I have a closed driveline ("A"). Had to chop some off each end and split the top horizontal parts on it to match the tops of the "A" rails but it will fit fine including a mount for the '37-'41 size unmolested wishbone I'm using. Rolf: Don't plan a top chop 'cuz I'm a tall dude and need all the height I can get! Boones: Yes, your sharp eyes noticed one of my dilemmas! I'm hoping a 4" dropped axle will be narrower. That's a stock '36 in there now. Also need to find or build some de-reversed wheels! Using 15" truck ones on there now. Yes, I kinda like the lack of the front apron too!
