My su****ion there are as many shoe box Fords with Chevy's than Ford engines. Chevys fit a lot easier than any other engine than a Flatmotor. I had a chopped 49 that had the stock engine, the guy that bought it from me swapped in a SBC almost immediately.

SBC is a normal basterd swap so I would not worry about it. Four doors hurt the value more, there parts cars to me.

I'd be willing to bet that at least half of the non-stock old cars on the road have had SBC's transplanted into them (it's usually cheaper to put in a SBC than a Ford small-block), wouldn't be a problem for most folks.

It's an old car with a belly****on in it. The average Joe would think it was factory at this point, and the vast majority of non-HAMB car guys would not care one bit. I like SBC powered cars if my goal is to just drive them around and work on them cheap.

As far as worth goes... I'm in Squirrel's camp. Either buy it really cheap or plan on taking a loss at some point. That's just old cars.

  6. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 305. It makes at least the twice the power of the Flathead. If you like the car, buy it and enjoy it.

Haha I was going to say that but since you did I’ll second that.

  9. If that's really the case, why the question to begin with? Don't you know what you like? Why do you need to have somebody tell you what you like? Maybe you should start a poll, and base whether you like it or not on the results.

  10. not even close, I don’t need someone else to tell me what i like or not.
    The question.
If you actually bothered to read my first post was. Does having a sbc in a ford greatly affect its value.
I stated, I liked the car, looks appearance etc.
Not once did I ask some one if they thought it was cool, just about the drivetrain and how it impacts the value of the car.

I don't think the 305 hurts the value at all, of all the things I would change on this car if it was mine, that engine/trans would not be one of them. It's more the mish-mash of several different styles that I'm not fond of. Of course, if the price was right, that stuff is all correctable.

305 wouldn't bother me. If you like the car is all that matters.

Buy what makes you happy and to heck with opinions. Everybody has one. I think the car is fine. I kinda like Continental kits sometimes and don’t understand why people harsh on them. There were thousands of them installed years ago. Can’t change that.

Hold out for a 2 door

  15. Went and looked at it again with clearer eyes and it’s a big problem waiting to happen.
As a garage queen and occasional driver I’m sure it would be fine.
But I like putting miles in my cars with the family
And this one looks like it would need tons in the near future as far as steering brakes body electrical etc
The interior ain’t my cup of tea and neither is some of the body mods
Price is right but I’ll wait

think I’m getting an itch for a 20’s or 30’s something
