This morning I woke up with an interesting hypothetical question on my mind. Two deuce roadsters. Car #1) ASC rails, a reproduction Model A front crossmember, reproduction K member, and a repop rear cross-member. Original steel body with replacement 1/4 panels and firewall Car #2) Original '32 frame with an original Model A front crossmember, and a fiberglass body.

Which one is the "real" '32 ford, and why? Most are just gonna have a knee-jerk response to this question, obviously, this is designed to provoke thought, not elicit an "answer" to my question. I am a person that makes it a habit to question my beliefs regularly, and a belief that wont stand up to close scrutiny is discarded. This question has me questioning some of my long held beliefs.

Neither is a "real" deuce. Both could be real fun rides. To each his[her] own.

I was recently told that my -27 T roadster was not a real Ford because it had a fabricated chassis and a glass body. The car does have:

-A real Ford engine and tranny.
-'37 Ford front axle and spindles, Model A wishbone, F-1 sock mounts etc.
-8" Ford rear end w/ '36 Ford wishbones.
-Misc. Ford parts like horn, wheels, radiator, generator etc.

The guy who told me my car was not real had:

    -Brookville '32 "Ford" body.
    -So-Cal chassis.
-and a new GM 350 crate engine.

This may be a useless thread. I personally go with the body. If the body is mostly ginnie, then it is real.
One of if not the best 32 roadster that I know of is glass.
You sure can drive and have fun in either. It really don't matter.

Didn't provoke me to think. I know a real hot rod when I see one. I'll wait until tonight and see if I lose sleep over it, or wake up tomorrow thinking about it.:D

This is a HAMB question not a Street Rodder question. To me the fiberglass bodied car is NOT "Real", and I had a Wescott '32 project years ago. A Brookville is a nice body and steel, but everyone building one knows it is a Brookville NOT an orginal. Selling one, and having the buyer find out it was passed off as one of Henry's is legal trouble in some cases. So, the answer to the original question the real steel body on the ASC rails is the REAL '32 IMO.

Do a search. I never say that but in this case I think it applies. This has been debated sooo many times from different angles. There are a lot of posts with opinions that should keep you busy for a while. They always end up getting closed when people get their feelings hurt.

We all have our opinions and all the debates in the world won't change anyone's mind.

In Texas an early Ford is titled by frame numbers, so (around here) the original chassis with the glass body would be closer to the "real deal".

Most experts can't tell steel from glass unless they knock on it with their knuckle.
I guess you could call them Knuckleknockers, or better yet Knuckleheads!

I believe both are real but maybe not original. If you had these two cars and were honest to a buyer or someone you are showing them to, then there is no problem. They now know what there looking at. Most of us have used what parts were available to build or fix the cars we are working on.
Build it how you want it, not the way someone tells you you have too. It is for you to enjoy.

I believe that the only persons opinion that matters is the owners. If your happy with it why do you care what I think about it?

  18. So can you still get ASC Rails anymore, since they went backrupt several years ago.
I worked for ASC. In Southgate Mich.

WHO CARES? Certainly not anyone who doesn't have is name on the title and if they do there is someting called "a life " they should look into getting. Maybe a search is in order and you'll get what the last 7,391 people who "needed" a life had to say about the subject.
