One thing I remember being told about the 261 was that you had to pay close attention to head bolt lengths when R&R head, as there was one bolt slightly shorter that if it wasn't in the right place it cut off an oil p***age. Don't remember what oil p***age. The engines were fairly numerous in Chevy trucks just before the advent of the sbc. Dave
Your thread makes me smile. Not only do you have the "bones" of a hot rod here, you are having a priceless time with your dad in a relationship as two adults. A lot of us never got that opportunity, and I have no doubt that the time you are spending with your dad is giving you more satisfaction than the car is. Enjoy!
It was nice meeting and talking to you today. I love this build!! Very cool car. Bring it to the roundup and we'll line 'em up next to each other..
I may just bring it to the roundup if I get it ready in time,if not I will bring the 37. Note when we left yesterday on the way home a lady rearended me in the 37 in dallas not bad but not a lot of fun. See you at the roundup Buddy
Thanks it worked out really good and looks like it should. I think it was a good idea and saved a bunch of money also. I am sick over getting rearended in my 37 on the way home from goodguys yesterday. At least the damage was not bad agHHH
There's a reason all the new(er) cars have big, ugly tailights, it's inattentive drivers behind you. Sorry you got hit in that beauty. Exactly the reason that I'm installing LEDs inside the louvers on my Hiboy build as a 3rd brake. On a closed car, I think I'd consider a 3rd in the back window, sealed to gl*** to avoid backglare.
Good idea however we going straight down I 30 day time no lights on at all. lady just swerved and nailed my left rear no reason at all. I still like the 3rd light idea good day
Got a new windshield in this weekend got some body work to do on the south end looks like a push start went bad one day. and thats Enough of that stinking spotted primer paint job!!! I been wanting to get after that ever since I got this thing!!
long way huh? lot uh change the 261 is being bored this week got the header in this week got two carbs coming for the fenton intake
great post. read the whole thing. I say put the cool hubcaps back on. those are 1949 only and fairly rare, even with ebay. I never even saw one on a 49 until I had mine for like 20 years.
These are diffrent wheels they are 16" and the hub caps wont fit em. I am going to have my other wheels powder coated. I was thinking lancer hubcaps. Any one intrested in the 49 chevy caps? what are they worth if I decide to sell em? Thanks for the look
Looks as if the ole 216 can get an at***ude!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwRZ0m4vKJU&feature=youtu.be
