That's seriously a cool story. I am sure that he loved every minute of it and he's probably still thinking about it.

I lost my father over 2 years ago due to a stroke before I ever had anything to give him a ride in. I think about what he would have said every time I light the car up and go for a burn. He would have loved it!!!

It's nice to have your dad around. Stuff like this can only help not hurt. A believe a good portion of recovery is having something to live for and you father looks like he has that. Good work!!

    Jerry,
You have done an incredible job! So good to see you and your Dad enjoying it. Besides, I think in a roadster, if you drive at the right speed and tilt your head up a little, you are already on oxygen!;)

What a great memory and it makes it more special that he asked for a ride, the looks on both of your faces is priceless. You will look at those pictures in the years to come and the it will seen a real as if it happened yesterday. I know its been 20+ years for me and I still think about my dad alot. Best wishes to you and your dad

Very cool. Father and son stories always get me.
My father has always been more of a muscle car guy and never really wanted to take any interest in the cars I build, despite my early attempts to involve him.

I came to learn that his avoidance wasn't because he didn't want to be involved or lack of interest, but due to insecurity over his lack of mechanical knowledge. He always paid to have his cars built and worked on. I always just ***umed growing up, that this was due to the fact that he was self employed and seemingly ALWAYS at work, so out of necessity just paid to have work done.

He was afraid I would in some way think less of him or that he would lose my respect if he confessed he couldn't turn a wrench. After a heart to heart over some beers and tears, we have never been closer and enjoy working together all the time. Kinda' fun teaching the old man some stuff for a change, hehehe

  13. Hey Jerry,
Not much to add to all of these replies, accept to do it more, and as often as Pop is able!! These times are like money in the bank, they will pay you dividends in the future.

That's good **** right there. My dad has COPD and isn't quite at the oxygen bottle stage yet but I can sympathise with the feeling. He has always wanted an old convertible so 2 years ago for fathers day, I bought him a 50 Dodge convertible for us to fix up together.

Jerry, this post brightened my day!

The list of regrets in my life is all full, no more room for those things I didn't get to because I was was going to do it next week, or I was lazy, busy or whatever.

Take your dad out once a week and let him drive next time.

God bless you Jerry, you're a good lad. (tears streaming down my cheeks). Do it again...do it often. Take videos. Later in life, these will become your most cherished memories. Trust me on this.

Very cool. Lost my Dad in 92 after a long bout with Alzheimers. Will never forget him putting pedal to the metal in our 56 Buick and holding it there until Mom began to scream! He absolutely loved that! (she told me later she secretly did, too).

Sweet. Put one of those shots in your wallet. You will never forget. Lost my Dad in 02. Every 60s Caddy I see reminds me of our rides out on the highway. Thanks for sharing. Slim

I share all the sentiments from above, this is great stuff. Really positive for both of you in a time that could be weighing on you, and the fact that he asked just makes it a better memory.

That is so cool you were able to do that. Enjoy your time with him you won't regret it.
I lost my Dad when I was 15. I'd give anything for 15 minutes with him.

  26. I couldn't skip by this one, treasured times. I lost my Dad to cancer in 1974, he and I were working on a 29 ford roadster that he bought for $75.00, never finished it. I sold it cause it seemed pointless without him. I kept the car club plaque from his club in 1956. Intercepters Edgewood Pewaukee Wisconsin, It now has a place on my 29 roadster, I don't have his car anymore but I keep all of what that car meant to both of us tucked in close. My best to you & your Dad.;)

Great memories surfaced as I read your story and looked at the pictures. I lost my Dad several years back and this just remindes me of all the times together. Take every advantage of your time with your father because there the best.
