It is indeed a shame, but fires don't start by themselves. There was a reason. The sooner we find out what caused it, the sooner we can prevent this happening to others.

  5. FIRE IN THE HOLE!
This carnage looks familiar to me. Been through it myself. Our two story office burned in December 2000. Been in the family since 1947 when my grandfather bought the place. I grew up in the building and it was just like home. Had lots of family stuff there like tools, books, photos, furnature and most important, lots of memories!
The Chinese restaurant next door west (no joke!) lit up one early morning before day break and the fire soon spread over to us. No one was there at the time and the fire had plenty of time to heat up! By the time it was "over", that evening, the place was a total loss. It damaged the buildings on either side but fortunatey did not spread on down the block!
To this day that smell of a burned building makes me gag.
Well, I'm thinking it's never really "over" and ya can't forget what happened. But I guess you just pick up and keep going!
And our sincere best wishes to you and all involved. There will be a better day yet to come!

I have been through this myself but no where near the amount of loss that you have sustained. All we lost was the house and a 65 GTO. I still can smell the fire and it happened over 5 years ago. I am so sorry for your loss, words cannot describe what you are going through so I won't try. My prayers are with you Jason.

What a shame ! I was looking for comments on that sagging lift and the heat involved but the loss of such awesome cars is the bigger story indeed.

Wow, this really sucks. I'm so sorry for you Jason. This sort of thread is exactly why we have overkill insurance on our shop and everything in it. Along with the overkill security system with fire alarm included!

If there were anything my shop could do to help you, please let us know man.

That is a very sad day indeed. Did any cars survive, were any out of the shop at the time of the fire?

Sorry this happened Jason. It would be helpful if you could explain here what caused this - as a lesson learned for the rest of us. To any car person, this is gut wrenching!

  23. This SUCKS! Sorry about the loss.

  24. Jason, I am SO sorry to hear about your loss, andl also agree that we should be thankful that no one, even the dog, was hurt or killed. What is the Facebook page so that I can join up and contribute a little to the cause?

For the rest of us: Maybe we should ALL take this as a warning, and check into the price of getting a sprinkler system installed in our shops? I mean, we all spend boxes of money on parts, tools, supplies, etc. and I really don't think that some 3/4" steel pipe, some fittings and some pendant sprinklers would be all that expensive, would it? Especially when building a new garage / workshop from the ground up.

I've "only" have a 2 car garage behind the house, but always disconnect the batteries on any car that is left in the garage overnight, and have 2 good fire extinguishers nearby. I won't even leave a battery charger on overnight (on the disconnected battery) because I'm afraid that I will have purchased the ONE defective battery charger that will overheat and cause a fire. Paranoid? Yeah.

Please consider classic car insurance too. I heard good things about Hagerty a few years ago so I got them on my (OT) 71 Road Runner, and the one time that I had a claim they were absolutely great. Polite, quick, attentive... Not "advertising" for them or anything, just relating my personal experience.

Jason, I saw the photos on the other thread and you ARE a talented builder!!! It breaks my heart to see your artwork get destroyed like that, but be strong, and you'll be back with even more determination and drive.

I wish you the best, and as smooth a recovery as possible!

This hurts right to the core, all off us can appreciate just how much time and effort alone went into all those builds, let alone money.
Like everybody has said before, really gutted for you Jason, this must be totally soul destroying.

Has made me think and probably many others too I guess. I have a large (for over here anyways) garage/shop and it currently holds 5 cars/rods and 4 classic brit bikes and all off my tools that I have collected over the years.
The shop is at the rear off my property, behind and to one side off my house , and with the rest of my shit at the front of the shop on the drive it makes it pretty impossible for the fire services to get there should something like this occur. Something many of us maybe over looks (me included) until something as disastrous as this happens, and to be fair it looks like Jasons shop had very good access.

Hoping you get as easy a ride as possible through all this mate, and that things turn around and you can come through this with at the very least the shop and tools that were insured payed out for hassle free.
    All the best Paul.
