Ok ZombieHotrod, I was a little harsh about your choice of music in your videos, and I laughed out loud at your response, .....I deserved that. But now let me ask you a question about that music as I have wondered about this for a while. What the hell is that music about ? I can very rarely understand the lyrics and it just sounds angry. You can't dance to that music, you wouldn't ( I hope ) listen to it while parking by moonlight with your girl, it doesn't make you want to tap your foot , so what the hell good is it? Just asking.

It's called rock 'n roll, and the same way your parents hated the music you liked when you were young, you now hate what the young kids listen today. Dare I say it? You've become your parents. :)

A lot of the guys around here bill themselves as "Hot Rod Hoodlums", yet squirm at the sound of slightly aggressive music. To me, the image of a rot rod with a mean chop, speeding down the highway, breaking all the rules doesn't fit well with Jimmy Buffett.

The number one complaint I hear from older guys is "Why aren't more younger people into hot rods? They all drive import cars." So I try to make movies that can appeal to both younger and older people alike. When a 17 year old kid who's just learning about hot rods goes with his dad to "Lead East" and sees a 70 year old women in prom dress or dressed as a cheerleader dancing to The Wanderer, they run away horrified.

I use music from my friends bands, and a lot of the members build and own hot rods. So to me it makes sense. What could fit better with hot rods than music written, recorded, and performed by people who are hot rodders themselves?

Thanks for the explanation. I was a teen in the late 1960's so when I cruise in my street rod I listen to the music of the 60's and 70's. I see your point about the young guys running away horrified, I would too. I never looked at that music as rock and roll though, I'll have to watch your videos again and listen to the music with an open mind.

Brian maybe you should make two versions of your movies... one with a PUNK ROCK soundtrack (my preference), and one with a more "pleasing" sound track... LOL ! Just kidding. I agree with your statement and at 47 years young I still occasionally get in the mosh pit and enjoy the "more aggressive" music. I guess it's a state of mind, the creative energy of today's youth and the traditional influences of years past, associated with hot rodding, are complimentary and not opposing forces.

Keep doing what you do, you know whats up ! / RFFR !

Enloe, I shot a ton of footage on the way out to Bonneville this year. Expect to see a sequel to "The Road to Bonneville" in the Spring/Summer of 2012!

Dennis, we had a great time at your shop, and really enjoyed the food. After a long day of driving, friendly faces and a good meal makes it all worth it.

    I just ordered mine..

  20. I've had my copy sitting in my room, still in the plastic, and still in the shipping envelope for 3 weeks now. Bought it as a Christmas present for my kid sister, but not opening and watching it is killing me!

Christmas day is going to be a good one for sure! :D

I'd be interested in that. In my opinion, they don't get enough credit and exposure and they have some pretty cool stuff!

  22. haha something like that. She's into hot rods too, so it is actually a gift for her. But since the movie is sitting in my room right now, the temptation to 'preview' the movie is huge. :D

Brian just watched the movie. some cool stuff. One part of the movie makes me wonder just a little. the part when Mike is showing his 32 the place were the movie pics were done for mikes car. That was Tommy Caruso shop. Just wondering If you were all-ready at his shop why would you not have included Tommy in your movie . He is one of the best. I just think you missed out. not to take away from your movie I just think It would have just made it that much better. Sorry it just Puzzles me to see that. I am glad to see "CRAZY" Kenny is in it . he is helping me with a Flathead build . If you have not seen this Movie guy's . it's a must see.

Brian thanks for taking the time to make this great movie.

  27. Love the movie!!

Love the music! and I'm 73-years old!

A crazy thought just hit me. Wouldn't it be fun to put a full race, fully chromed, 3-carb flathead in a cherry '55 Chev Bel Air Hardtop!!

    ;o)

Hey, turnabout is fair play isn't it?

Reekie, I did interview Tommy and got a lot of good stuff from him. Unfortunately that footage was lost. It was the one time I didn't back everything up onto multiple hard drives.

. . . computer nerd talk aside, true HD cameras don't shoot onto tape, but onto a card which you then "offload" onto your hard drive. . . and once it's lost, it's lost forever.

I'm glad that everyone who's seen the movie likes it, I worked really hard on it and it's nice to know that the effort was worth it. Thanks again!
