hey guys, im new to the whitewall stuff, so i was wondering if anyone could answer my questions. i was gonna put military style tires on my truck and decided i might want to put whitewalls instead. so im lookin at some on the coker tires site. i will be using regular steel rims , so i sont think i will need tubes. but i want to put a little taller tire in the back, than in the front. i think i will be putting h78-15, g78-15, or L78-15 in the front and im trying to figure out what to put in the back. i dont understand what the g78, L78, or h78 means. can you help me understand how all this works and how to figure out what to put in the back that would be a bit taller. thanks
L78 is about as tall a car tire as they made with that numbering system. The letter is the section width, L is about the same as the modern metric 235 size. 78 is the aspect ratio, just like on modern tires, which is the sidewall height to width ratio. If you run a G78 in front and L78 in back it might look ok, or maybe go a bit smaller in front. Or find some other type of tire for the rear.
Here's what I found using that crazy thing called Google: http://carnut.com/specs/tires.html http://www.vintagecarconnection.com/vintage_tire_size_conversion_chart.htm
