    Howza Bruthas,
I am stumped by some things I am trying to do to my Track Roadster project. Firstly, let me say that this is the first time for me attempting to build something this old. So it is a huge learning experience.
    Alright, well,
A)How does one remove the unwanted leafs from the front and rear?
B)I am using the wide bolt patterned Ford wheels on the rear- what
bearings work with this wheel/axle combo?
C)Anyone have any Ford flatty 6 speed equipment?
D)How does one test old gauges?
Any info would be HUGELY appreciated.
-Oh and some pics of the gas tank we found and the wide patterned wheels on the rig..... [IMG]

There is a alignment bolt that holds all the leafs together.
Remove that bolt and you can take out as many leafs as you want. As for the hub there are many different bearings available, the best thing to do is take the axle and hub to a local bearing place and they will match em up for ya,

Spooky when you take the spring apart they are under pressure so you should make a clamping system that will keep the spring from popping apart and taking your arm or head off. The rear is more difficult then the front. I have used C clamps but if you make something to keep them from flying out that would be your best bet. The front spring is a lot easier to deal with. DO NOT just un bolt the pin or else your kids will not have a father anymore. OK?....Danny

Thanx Danny. I kinda remember you telling me that. Now, is the axle under pressure right now attached to the axle? My assumption is that I use the clamps on the top springs, right?
Is this true for the rear as well?
Also, how many leafs should be removed?
    Thanx all..

You want to clamp the leaves together near the middle, remove the bolt, then slowly release the clamps.
Remove everyother leaf, clean, grease, and reassemble using the same clamps.

If that is a '39 rearend or so, the rear axle bearings are the same as all others of the era (30's to '48). Can be obtained at Mac's or your favorite old Ford parts supplier. Get a Mac's catalog, it's invaluable in building an old Ford. And they have some of the best prices. Never been done wrong yet by Mac's.

Please use this method of removing leaves. Put a clamp on the spring pack next to the center bolt Two is better. Remove the center bolt. Insert a long piece of all thread and put nuts up to the spring leaves. Remove clamps. Loosen nuts untill all load is gone. Using clamps without the all thread can(WILL) result in springs jumping all over the place when tried with a spring still attached to an axle. Good luck
PS I would remove the spring leaves evenly IE every other one.

  10. Spooky; A simple way to deal with the spring weather putting it together or taking it apart is all thread. Put a C-Clamp on both sides of the center bolt and tighten them. Remove the center bolt and install a long piece (24" or so) then remove c-clamps. Start backing off the nuts. You wont half to worry about the clamp getting away and re-accembly is just as easy.
