That would be good for the guy in a town where you parallel park a lot and doesn't want back seat p***engers getting out in traffic.
He could have centered one door on the p***enger side, ala teen’s Model Ts. That would make everyone happy.
Owner or builder saw too many '67-'72 Suburban 3 door trucks, and wanted his Dart to be the same! I love my 3 door '69 Suburban, but it's hilarious when two guys go to climb in the back, and one goes to the driver's side!
If you only enter through the p***enger side, you better have a bench seat and no shifter in the way.
I approve. Wonder if it would be an issue getting it ***led and registered as a "3 door sedan"? Seems like it might make a DMV clerk's head explode!
Portland....while under the influence, he was tired of getting into the driver side back door and thinking someone had stolen his steering wheel.....
My deceased BIL did that to an old Coronet. A deer hit it and caved it in so he pounded it out but it would no longer stay closed. He welded it shut and painted the car.
I had a one door once. My wife had an OT AMCc Gre…. The p***enger door started coming open when making a sharp left turn, I tried adjusting to make the latch stay latched. No go, so I welded it shut. My BIL was in Junior High and he’d want a ride occasionally, he sure hated going through the rear hatch ha ha Dan
I think he went with the old saying that you can’t see but one side at a time, kinda like I layout flames.
Early GM Holdens have locks only on the p***enger side too, but only for the utes and panel vans. The sedans and wagons got locks on both front doors. I have no idea of the logic. cheers, Harv
I always said this make the Burger Drive Thru side sweet as possible no one will see the other side !
Not the case perhaps...but production line miscues have been known to use body trim that differ on opposite sides & missed upon final inspection.
At the Chevy dealership where I worked it wasn't uncommon to have a new Chevy P/U delivered with GMC hub cap emblems. Or fender nameplates that said Sierra instead of Silverado. Or mixed up interior emblems on the steering wheel, dash pad or door trim panels. We once took a clean, then late model, Pontiac Astre wagon in trade. The dealership owner decided that it would make a good car for his daughter. But it wouldn't do to have her driving around in a Pontiac. So he had the front header panel and grille, body nameplates and hub cap emblems changed over to the Chevy Vega versions. I'm sure it was ***led and registered as a Pontiac but a number of his employees always wondered what would happen if his daughter was ever involved in even the slightest traffic violation. But sadly that never happened.
I kind of dig it. I wouldn't have gone to the trouble, but as a done car I'd drive it. Yes, I'm weird. Gambino was building a custom and had done this (3 door) before it halted. A Lincoln, IIRC. This one still has all 4. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPcKDSBrH-E
Does it have a "salvage ***le" by any chance? Or other paperwork issues that may be a problem getting it approved for the road? My first thought was it's a couple of wrecks Frankenstined together.
My dad ordered a MonteCarlo new in 1979. When he went to pick it up it had a pinstripe and mag wheels on one side and no pinstripe and hubcaps on the other side.
I think that you all may have made a mistake. It was a two-door that he began converting to the more desirable moredoor model
