Technical A V8 torque tube angle ?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ABONES, Mar 22, 2015.

  1. My torque tube is level with the ground . Is there any type of seal I can install to keep the gear oil towards the rear? I know I have seen information on this before. Just can't seem to find it.

  4. I ordered a collar and seal from Bruce's hot rod shop out of Texas. Been quite happy with it. Gives you a nice seal around driveshaft collar.

  5. I just hit this problem yesterday as well. I don't quite have everything sorted out as far as my mounts but I'm getting worried.

Is the washer/seal trick the whole ticket or what?

My friend had a '39 with a severe rake and toasted a set of gears because the gear oil ran out. I went to a local shoemaker and he gave me a piece of scrap leather and I fabricated a seal. It worked for years, when he sold the car it was still in the car. If Bruces Rod Shop has a seal kit, that's probably the way to go.

Indeed. I did this with the full-float hubs on my rock-rig. The severe operating angles often encountered caused gear oil to weep past the seals, fouling the brake pads.

I made a couple of rawhide doughnuts an put them between the bearings and the seals. Fixed.

I cut a hole in the middle of a tuna/cat food can and siliconed it in place. Has worked good for 16 years.

Turn the driveshaft seal around as per Gene McKinney. It works everytime!
