Ok, so someone fabs up a sheetmetal 5-window that has no history except that the tin might have come from crushed oldsters. It's inhearantly cooler due to materials?

    *shrug*

  2. Howdy Erik, what the hell you doing here? Bored at the other place also. This place is hopping and seems to have better tech. Just not as informal as over there.

    I'm everywhere. ;)

And no, I am not just defending glass bod roadsters due to the fact that one might be my next project. ;)

    But it does help. :)

  4. I can't dog out glass body hot rods because I hope to make a few for friends and then get into actually building complete rods after I get their two bodies done.

  5. I don't know about getting more help, but you'll sure as hell get opinions!

  6. There are exceptions to every rule, and we individually make rules in these matters.

Have a nice day, except for the guy who made the pussy flavored dick comment... that made my lunch come up a little. :)

Ah, quit yer whinin'! This car has no old parts but is loaded with soul.

Here's a little more of the "Tinman" car. The WHOLE THING is scratch built. I mean cowl and all! This kid is amazing! His name is Brian Limberg. Keep an eye on him, you'll undoubtedly see him in the future doing great things.

  11. That car's the cat's ass! Is he the same "Tinman" who makes instructional welding videos, TM Industries, or something? Is there a website?

No he's not. Right now he's just a young guy working in a body shop.

The kid is GOOD! Please tell me he drove that to the Interstate Center, that thing deserves road time and not trailor time. :)

He drives it. He had no hesitation driving it in the rain that weekend. It was cool, as he pulled in to the winners circle on Sunday the wet heat shield wrap was steaming like crazy as the mill roared.

I'd really like to have a chopped 32 Ford 3 window someday...
Most gennie 32 3 windows go for 50-100 grand.
I can build a really nice all repop 32 3w that has the look of one for 30k.
Or I can build a steel early 30's ________ coupe with a 32 shell for even less.
I still would rather build the glass 32 3w because I'll never afford a steel car and I don't want a "it looks like a 32 ford 3 window from the front at 50 feet with the 32 grill shell coupe".
I actually feel sorry for the guy's that have steel 32-34 fords, because it must get old knowing everyone thinks your car is glass whether it is or not. And you probably could have bought multiple glass bodies for what you paid for your steel one. (I realize if you bought your car 10+ years ago or it came in 1/2 dozen pieces that may not be the case, but we can all relate to what they cost back in the day versus now.
I think this has gone way off Groucho's point of just by looking at the car he posted pictures of you wouldn't guess that it isn't a steel car.
Glass, Steel, Paper, Plastic, Old, New, I don't really care what it's made from as long as it looks cool!

Trailer it over to my house....I'll drive the wheels off it. And I won't stop long enough for anybody to ask the proverbial question.

Boy start'in to sound like the Pebble beach crowd ... " Buffy that '32 Ford is fiberglass how uncouth "....... Ha .....

For me, it's the cool factor ... steel can add a lot to the coolness .. tons ... but glass can be just as cool or cooler ... not like we are building restoration pieces .....

I've seen a lot Rods that were done in original steel that looks like Shit and built even worse !... or stuff guys have done to a car that is their "perception" of the 50's ... not the real thing or anything that was done in the day ..... cool.. but not correct ....

By the Dead Elvis logic all rods not built before "1963" are Crap too !... they don't have the proper "Provenance" or what ever the collectors call it ....

Like Ryan said .. it's a futile topic ..... but bich'in is kind of fun ...
Like a buddy of mine always sez "thats why Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors"

It seems like the real question is would you rather have a shitty steel car or a nice fiberglass one? If it was me I'd go with the nice fiberglass car. But Im not hard core enough maybe!

If i build a fiberglass car to use as my winter beater, will all the "real" hot rodders who park their car when it snows make fun of me?
