Back in the '60s and early '70s it was quite common to swap the Mopar A833 into high hp Chevy drag cars.
I have one of the simplest of those adapters, just a thick block of machined aluminum
with both the Chevy/GM and Mopar bolt pattern, the trans side being counterbored to accept the Mopar bearing retainer.
This setup bolts up to the common Chevrolet pattern GM bellhousings and scatter shields. Bought this one some 30 years ago and have never seen another one for sale since, but there should be a few still floating around.

  3. There are a few other threads about the NP833 (also known as the NP440)- if I can find them, I'll post the links.

Chevrolet used three 2wd versions with the 81-87 C10 (and a 4wd version with the K10)
    - an iron casing with the typical Chevy bell housing bolt pattern
    - an iron casing with the Mopar bell housing bolt pattern (that uses the14061655 bell housing)
    - an aluminum casing with the Mopar pattern (geez, how I wish they made an aluminum case with the Chevy pattern)

    Here's the special bell housing:

Great transmissions (I have one for my '56 pickup project to put behind my 348), just getting harder to find... and for those that keep saying they're "tripping over them", I need a shifter mount and would love to find a set of heavy duty linkage :D

  4. I just drilled my Lakewood scattershield the mopar pattern when I ran an 833 18 splined 4 speed, Liberty's gears supplied the front collar for use with a chevy throwout bearing and also machined the input shaft to length and pilot diameter.

I have one of those aluminum cased a833 trannys that has the regular gm pattern and input. I've pondered using it in my 55 chevy project but would prefer to trade it for an early t10 to be more true to the era i am building the car to... I think the gm code for the tranny is MY6..... It is an overdrive...it has the same ratios as a 700r4 auto....same mount location and the same speedo gear housing.
