Justin- gimme a call about airheart calipers if you are even thinking about them in the future... got some decent rebuildable double puck calipers. I can definately see both sides of the fence here, in all actuality ( and you will come to find out) that letting the clutch out on a 1967 era dragster on the tracks of today is a DIFFICULT task. Tracks are 100% different then they were in the day. And that is probably the biggest hardship. Let me and Mike W. know when you are planning on trying it, i will show you some of the ways of getting around VHT glued tracks that could keep a space shuttle from launching off. Looks good man, great OHIO gas car that is coming back to life. keep rolling TH
1st time I met Justin he was riding the bike in the first picture from Jerico ARIZONA to Rockingham NORTH CAROLINA.. we were following the ride. The trip ended at The ROCK Drag strip where Justin's drag bike was waiting in the pits with the team. We were running a little late, and Justin was scrambling to get to the track in time for a pass the first day.. I watched him climb off one RIGID bad ass bobber he had just rode 2400 HARD MILES, throw his race leathers on, step over the DRAG BIKE and rip off a NINE SECOND PASS... I knew right then this "kid" was on the level and I would NEVER doubt him again. -------------------------- Justin.. Don't listen to the guys that are on the SIDE LINES and aren't even qualified to hold you HELMET. You got a real nice project going there. I KNOW your fabrication skills, your attention to detail, your DAD'S WATCHFUL EYE, and all your ACTUAL RACING experience will guide you through this just fine... RESTORE IT. RUN IT. ENJOY IT. IT'S YOURS... (DRAGSTER and LIFE) I'll see you on the starting line with Tyler Hilton (Eastcoast57) and Mike Whitney (Richcraft) and give you the final THUMBS UP. If you want to do something safe: Go play golf... (or maybe go surfing) This is how we do things around here in Ohio. ---------------------------------------------- DRERacecar- From one PROFESIONAL RESTORER to another: This guy is ON THE LEVEL. 100% qualified to do a Museum quality Restoration while producing a SAFE, RELIABLE car that we will all enjoy for years to come. If there is anything guys "like us" have to dislike about a guy like Justin is: HE'S ANOTHER QUALIFIED PLAYER ON THE ALREADY SMALL FIELD!! Just for re-assurance.. here's a couple of Justin's other DAILY DRIVERS most of you KEY BOARD RACERS wouldn't dare climb on. (Diclaimer to the "eye-in-the-sky" I know these pics are off topic, but they are backing my defense for his "Ability" to do what many "talkers" on the thread are saying he can't. Sorry for the sidestep) J Shaw
I'm totally in agreement with you here... I restore Vintage Open wheel race cars.. They killed just as many fine young men (Probably more) than straight liners.. and I continue to see UNQUALIFIED RICH GUYS climb in them and drive WAY OVER their head... I'm very protective of it too! Thanks for your input. Someday you'll meet Justin and realize quickly: He's one of US! J Shaw
I never questioned his ability and quality of this build, my only concerns was him going to some outlaw track (as stated) and make some passes because he knew a sanctioned track would not allow it. Does not matter whose in the seat when a part breaks. I came down real hard on Art Chrisman one year at the CHRR because he was the last car at Cacklefest and when he approached the start line desided to do a burnout in the old "HUSTLER" dragster while there was about 5 mil worth of restos and people on the track. No worrys thats ART and hes been doing this stuff for 70 years-he can handle anything. All it takes is once and then it over.
I guess I should have been a bit more clear in my first statement, I was in no way contradicting myself, I just wasnt clear with the fact that I do not plan on running it in sanctioned events or regularly for that matter. I completely understand where you're coming from about the movement being in a fragile state and such, I agree that some people should not be involved with things just because they can. I also realize that there are real deal people out there and just because they dont have a big name on the internet or in magazines doesnt mean they do not know what they are doing/talking about. As you can see from the pictures and by reading my post, I am not just an "owner" with deep pockets, or someone with no regards my actions may have on others in the world of restoring/cackling old race cars. Rather than throwing out false offensive statements and stating opinions without any means of backing it up, sit back and watch and read the build, give advice if you feel the need, but its stupid comments like yours that keeps me from posting all of my builds and almost kept me from starting this thread, but I do so because there are people that have useful information and input that I value, and also people who can get the same joy I do out of seeing builds like this one. With all of that out of the way. Thank you for your compliment on the car. Those are some nice looking rides you have yourself! Thanks Tyler, I will give you a shout about the calipers, and thank you for the support, I will defiantly have all of you boys around when I make a pass! Josh, Thanks a million man! All of you guys support defiantly adds fuel to my fire when it comes to building/restoring cars and bikes! -Justin
That should not be of your concern, nor will it have any impact on any sanctioned bodies ways of doing cackle events. If I go to an outlaw track, track rental, whatever and hurt myself you probably wouldnt even hear about it. You will defiantly not see me at an event with tons of spectators and/or cars around and acting a fool, I have the up most respect for those types of events, other people around me's safety, as well as the time/money invested in all of the other cars around. You are completely right, all it takes is once, and that will not be from me, I can promise you that. -Justin
Just found the thread, Looks like you have you path figured out. Good for you and keep us up-dated. FED's are the coolest Hot Rods ever. All the best, Tim
Justin, the intake came from someone else. Justins scoops are original not a repops. He has some good parts sources here in Ohio.
Damnit man enough finger pointing, Justin, Great project, looking forward to seeing iT finished up, and hearing iT in person! Its shit like this that put's the F U in fun, and this bitch looks like FUN! Research it, restore it,build it, cackle it, run it, fuck it, it's your car, hell sleep in it naked, who fucking cares, your doing man! YOUR A RAD RULER IN MY BOOK!
Justin your rail had disc brakes and im sure they were dual piston. When it became a bracket car it got the 8 3/4 with the drum brakes which worked well all thru the 70's and 80's. The car was still in race condition when I found it last year. I have pictures if needed.
A-men! Thank you sir! My thoughts exactly, thank you for the complement! Gotcha, Thanks for chiming in on that! I wastn real sure and wasnt real concerned with it either at this point lol. It is good to know though, I will foreshore look into that as an option/upgrade when the bank account allows, as for now, I am happy with drums. -Justin
