I know that most front drum brake set ups have the drum and hub as one assembly. So whats the exact reasoning behind that? How safe is it to just install the front hub and then sandwich the drum between the wheel and hub ( like the rear axle ). Seems like it would work, I think it would work, but does it work with out any problems?
I think the factories do it (or DID it) for cost savings...you only ship one part..install one part..and when one OR the other goes bad, you sell TWO parts...
These are some the thoughts that I have had on the subject. It seems like it would work. I just don't want I just don't want my front wheels to loosen and or come off when I'm rollin in it. I have heard of people putting shims between the drums and hubs ( I guess for spacing reasons ) and their lug nuts loosing on them and have lost a wheel while driving. These being my steering wheels they are under more stress that the rear and I just don't want any problems.
I always ground off the rivets cause to work on the brakes I didn't see the point of pulling the whole hub each time, I never had any problems with the wheels coming loose after tightening the lug nuts, I tighten mine in a cross pattern because I had found a couple nuts that were loose but never had a problem after that just my opinion but I'd grind them off, with good wheels as in not bent or other major damage no reason they would come loose that I can think of
