I see you are new here so NO BASHING from me but....... This has been covered about 50 times ......... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=248000&Forum=UBB1&Words=pertronix&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=3months&Main=247213&Search=true#Post248000 Check here the latest thread on Pertronix.
my buddy uses one on his 56 ford victoria with a 406. He said it's really easy to install and says it's the best thing since velcro....
Put an Ignitor2 in my early FE 390 and noticed a total improvement. Purty easy to install. Personally made the mistake of re-attaching a tachometer wire to the wrong coil post, causing constant stall-outs on a road trip right after installing it, and I think that shortened the life of the micro box, but had no problem getting it replaced under warranty straight from the Pertronix folks in San Dimas. Their tech help is super cool, too, Bob's the man. Biggest difference I noticed was when opening 'er up on the road right between 2500 and 3000 RPM, man did that Ignitor do the job.
From the other side of the spectrum, and for what it is worth... I got one back in March or April of this year. I put it in my 55 Ford which had a rebuilt 57 distributor. Installation was EASY. It worked great, I thought it was the cat's****. In July, something happened with the******* and rear end and the car sat for about a month and a half. By the time it all got straightened out, it wouldn't start up. Plenty of fuel, NO spark. I put the points and condenser in again and it worked great. I called Pertronix to find out how to test it and they faxed me a sheet with all the testing info. It is*****. They told me that they can't replace it without my original receipt, which was more than likely thrown away long ago. It was fine with me, I would never have trusted it again anyway. Most people tell you to carry a spare distributor or points and condenser in the car just in case. Well, if THAT many people have problems with it, I REALLY don't want to have one again. Also, the HEI I have is*****, too. My goal is an automotive world with minimal electronics. For What it's Worth...
Thanks guys i will be puting it in soon so i will let you know how i made out...Thanks for the info..
