??? about the HAMB,Ryan,websites,misc. stuff

OK OK OK I'm gonna ask some very stupid questions here,go ahead,let me have it,I can take it..
All the posts about donations to Ryan got me thinking.I spend at LEAST an hour or two on here every day,have since I signed up a few months ago,and it is worth a lot to me.Hell,I don't even cruise Ebay as much as I used to,the HAMB gets most of my computer time now.
I print out some of the stuff (Thanks Overspray,and many others),and as a regular type dumbass,I'm learning shit I wouldn't learn otherwise.
I know Ryan is the boss,Grand Poobah,and God here,and I remember reading about him a long time ago in some rag,But I'm curious about the whole story.I want to send a token of my appreciation to him,so I got to thinking about how little I know.I see Ryan refer to job,travel,etc,what's his "real" job? What does it take to operate the HAMB?
I know jack shit dick nothing about computer sites,servers,so my next question is what does it cost him to keep the HAMB running?Does he spend hours a week or day just keeping it up? Is it expensive to operate?
I see Grimlock on here,too..Is he devoting tons of time/money,too?
Am I just too fucking stupid to be asking these questions?Should I hit delete now,and go to my room?Do I deserve a spanking for speaking out of turn?
I agree that a donation is in order,especially considering how much I get inspiration from the HAMB.
Those that know me well know what an asshole I am,but for those that don't,help me out with a little info,please.Curious minds want to know.Thanks

 

You're asking some really personal questions here bub.
I don't think Ryan likes being called the Grand Poobah either, he much prefers Grand Pooh Bear.

 

It's been customary here for a while that when you hit 1,000 posts you should auction something with proceeds going to the HAMB.

 

The cost to run this board is no ones business but Ryans. He has never once asked for any monatary "donation" from anyone here. If you want to donate, please feel free to do so, if you don't, no sweat there either.

As far as the time it takes Ryan to keep things going, probley more then any of us realize. Can you just imagine how many emails/PM's the guy gets per week from folks asking questions not to mention the time involved in maintaining the site.

Kick back, read alot, soak up the info here and alot of your other questions will get answered in time.

If you can throw something up for an auction, great (I know I'm way overdue!) If not then maybe you can offerup some good information once in a while.
If you can't do that, no sweat. Sit back read, think, and learn. Reply to posts when they help you learn. Thank the poster. Let them know that their time and knowledge is appreciated. Doing that brings good post back around,and pushes the usless stuff back.

If you don't have anything to auction off (like me) then there are always auctions you can bid on and possibly win. That way you help the hamb out and have something cool to boot!! Buy some shirts when they are offered again..part of that money goes to help the board. Ryan is a very cool and smart guy. He likes to keep a very low profile and I respect that..so should everyone else. Contribute when you can with a tech post...auction...be cool with you're posts and you will be alright.

Grimlock is like a Moderator..... He helps monitor the HAMB....because Ryan has other duties (like real job) and cannot watch the forum all the time.

To help Ryan.other than sending CA$H....

1) post and answer only threads that are ON TOPIC....traditional rods and customs, events for the same and parts
2) host your photos on a site elsewhere and then show them on the HAMB.......saves bandwidth (and $$$)
3) Have a auction.......or help with a raffle.......

To have one of these sites , you need a good connection to the internet (much bandwith) A good seerver, and a lot of discspace. That's the hardware part. Then you need software (license cost's).

Then you need time,time,time to keep things going. The hardware you can chose to run yourself, or buy it from an internet supplier. Anyway you need to lay out cash $$$$$

 

I heard that he flies around in a big ol 747 convertd to an airial motor home...never touches down except to refuel and load food.....he must be one crazy dude...and made outta money cuz his server and all his computer stuff are on the plane with him....does all this hi-tech computer shit by satelite.

That is SO true. Really everyone should care about this board. This thing is truely ground breaking. Ryan has put together something that has changed people's lives.

I just went to the Greazy Hubcapz BBQ this weekend. I met them through the HAMB. I built my car with help from people on the HAMB. I've auctioned some stuff to raise some money to help support the HAMB. Matter of fact, another auction from me is long overdue. The way Ryan runs this place is truely great. The best part about the HAMB is that greediness is to be left outside when you come in here. I've been here a year and that is one of the most outstanding aspects of the HAMB. It really means a lot more than I can even put into words.

Everyone should care about this place. It really is something special.

A 747? Come on guys, you now it's a WWII era cargo plne (old school, ya know?) so he can haul his 37'. Doesn't he wear tissue boxes for shoes and keeps his fingernail clippings?

 

I found a pic of him hauling his streamliner to el-mirage last year, If we're lucky we might see it at the HAMB drags. Sorry, its kinda big.

Yeah, Ryan hates to be photographed but I hid in the bushes and snapped this beauty. He was following his dogs around and picking up the dog "residue" like the responsible citizen he is. His money goes for bandwidth and 38 ford parts not fancy clothes and haircuts....

 

Ryan runs this place from a secret 50,000 WATT station in Mexico and broadcasts around the world! It's disguised as a radio station and he likes popsicles! They'll never catch him!
