I'm going to start making some fender skirts for my Dodge. Not sure whether to make them as in pic 1 where the bottom edge finishes at the top of the SS trim (where the yellow arrow is) or pic 2 where the bottom edge is flush with the bottom of the SS trim. If 2, the bottom edge will be slightly downhill to the front, whereas pic 1, the bottom edge will be basically horizontal to the ground. What do you guys think? Also, what do you think about putting a thin (about 1/2 - 3/4" wide) SS trim along the bottom edge of the skirt? Cheers Louie
I'am more in to the no2 pic Louie,if your going with some stainless it might look like an after market skirt of the day...Keep us posted with pic's.
I thought that as well (cept I wasn't around in those days). I actually kind of like pic 1 but 2 has something about it. Louie
I reckon you need a third pic, try level with the ground from the bottom of the trim and end with a radiused corner at the rear, or go past the rear fender line and sweep it up. How are you going to fasten them to the fender, I'd like to do a set for my '46 Chev and need some ideas. Scotty.
I get your drift there (does anyone say that anymore?). Might go up after dinner & make a quick template and photograph it. It's cold out tonight. I am going to attach it each side at the bottom with a rod in a bracket, and have a spring loaded catch that hooks up at the top. Prolly put a small stop at the corner arches so it sits flat. I designed a catch mechanism but it's a bit complicated so I've simplified it heaps. Louie
Make them like '51 Merc ones and keep the bottom edge (left on pic) flush with the bottom of the chrome trim.
Yeah like that, brings the lower line more to the rear, makes it look longer. Then you can finish the bottom of it with your trim. Scotty.
