Not bagging on you, but this is funny. I see why you would never add AC. The warm season lasts for 2.9 months, from June 21 to September 17, with an average daily high temperature above 76°F. The hottest month of the year in Camas is August, with an average high of 83°F and low of 57°F.
There are several low mount A/C brackets that use the fuel pump holes. Works great, and it hides it more than any other. I had to notch the frame some but totally worth it.
People forget how expensive air conditioning was as an option on cars back when. It wasn't that no one wanted it and everyone just preferred to ride around sweating like a pig. In the mid 60's, you could buy a new Ford, Chevy, or Mopar for around $2500 all day long. But, adding air to that car was $400-$450. That doesn't seem like a lot of money today, but think of it this way. The average new car today is around $30,000. If the cost of adding air was the same percentage of the price as it was back in the 60's, then air today would be a $4500-$5000 option. Adding 15% or 20% to the price of a new car was just s big a deal back then as it would be today.
This will be sacrilege, I know, but the Holley mid-mount system is really nice. Does not attach to the heads. Definitely modern looking, but could probably be toned down some. Alas, requires an electric fan.
Pretty much like any cutting edge technology. Look at how much flat screen TVs were when they first came out as opposed to now.
We usually have at least a 2-3 of weeks of 90*+ weather here and our humidity is fairly high despite what the stats say. That being said I am one of the fortunate ones that the heat doesn't bother me much. Maybe all the years spent at Bonneville has something to do with that. It really pisses my Wife off as I will be out doing things all day in the heat and she sits in the house in the A.C. on. I could easily live in Arizona year around but all my family and friends are here so.....
It's all relative. We thought we had high humidity here until I went to Alabama in the summer. Dang, it was thick.
Thinking back to the day… Why I didn’t want AC in a hot rod? Because it robbed horsepower and that I turn would increase ETs…or the run to the next stop light. So now, why on God’s green earth would I care about how fast I can accelerate, as long as I can still get my mini rush from depressing the vertical pedal on the right. And I can do it with a cool breeze on my face in August at 101 degrees and 80 percent humidity. Yeah…I like being an AC pussy.
^^^^^ My neighbor has had several cars to run Thursday nights. He’s up there now and health has him not doing it any longer for 5 years. All his cars had cobbled together AC with a single squirrel cage mounted on or just below the dash (no ducting) to blow directly on him.
I have a Vintage Air passenger side AC mount. Also a driver side alternator mount. Both for no hole heads. Pm if you ‘re interested.
Made my brackets and mounted them to "Corvette" 2.5 manifolds. Compressor Bracket. Compressor mounted. Alternator Bracket.
