If I want to increase the output of the accelerator pump on a Rochester 2 barrel do I bend the pump actuating rod so that it is longer or do I make it shorter?

I would set it to spec and then drill out the nozzles.

    It depends on carb number

Like saltflats is saying, bending the rod will change duration, to change volume you change the size of the nozzel.

If you can't change pivot holes lengthening or shortening the actuation rod does NOTHING for the amount OR the duration of the squirt.
All it does is make sure that the plunger moves as soon as the linkage moves...read that..."no slop".

Be SURE in any "bending" you may do, that you do NOT over extend the plunger depth. Yes there is an override spring in there, but it's best to not over work it..!

More gas...as has been said, drill the nozzle dia. But here again...do this carefully, because as the hole size goes up, the duration goes...down. Just a coupla thousanths (as in .002") at a time.

One thing that may help you, open the idle mixture screws 1/2 a turn or so. This will help with the "tip-in" fuel hesitation.

Looks like I got it. I looked up the spec and set it there. I worked with the idle mixture screws and they ended up about 3/4 of a turn farther out than they were. I also advanced the timing just a little bit. The hesitation seems to be gone!
