Well, finally picked up the left rear fender that I bought quite a while back from a fellow HAMBer. Joel Davis picked it up for me in Colorado then hauled it to Missouri where I was able to pick it up last night on my way to Detroit where I am headed for Autorama. :D Anyway, it is rough but not near as rusty as the one on the car. I’ll figure out whether to fix all the dents or use the rear area to fix the one on the car. I guess this is sort of like progress? I also am finishing up a tire rack that my oldest son built in vo-tech to get all my wheels and tires that are stacked around the car up out of the way. Little by little…

Thanks for the motivation and the ad for the skirts Anthony! I am looking for skirts, but need the style skirt that David posted above on the Merc he used to have.

And, I am at least fixing to clean out the corner of the shop where I stuffed the Merc since my son welded up a tire rack to hang on the wall so I can get all the tires and wheels that are stacked around the car up out of the way. :)

Hey Dan, I assume you mean the skirts? If so, I would guess they could work especially considering how custom this whole thing will end up anyway.

Did your 40 convertible by chance come with skirts you don't need? :)

  11. I think that's a typo, those look like 49-50 style skirts.

Not sure it is those either since I actually have a set for some reason that I am not sure of yet.

Jeff, sorry yes I meant the skirts. My 40 did not come with skirts but you can see in the old paint that it did have them at one time. In that same auction I bought the car at they had one pallet load of skirts of various types offered. I think the skirts for my 40 were probably on that pallet. Speedway offers skirts for the 40 but they're gold plated. Quality unknown.

Hmm...strangely enough, my mom graduated from Mt. Vernon, IL and both my mom's and dad's families are all still within probably 20 miles of that area. I may just have to check those out.

So…this made me follow up on some skirts a buddy thought he had about 5 miles from me. Sounds like I caught them right before they went to be sold at LSRU this weekend.

Looking through your thread from my thread on my 1936 Coupe, I was told these (beige) might be 40 Merc. They’re Foxcraft brand, I have pictures of the measurements (lines to indicate where I took measurements)
The black pair are 35-36 Ford

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Lincoln skirts on anything other than a Lincoln. Would probably look pretty awesome.

Absolutely! You can't do anything with it if you don't have it! ;)

I have had a couple HAMBers let me know that IronTrap Garage has been chopping a 39 coupe on YouTube. So, I have been watching those videos this weekend. I’m thinking I just need to brace the car up and get to chopping soon. I was planning to fix the rust first, but am dreading that part. If I chop it, I’ll be more motivated to do the stuff I am not as excited about. So, we will see if I can get started this year. :D Hard to believe how long I have had this sitting neglected in the corner already…

@IronTrap matt REALLY did a good job of showing all the effort that goes into chopping one of these. Really commend the guys for not only the chop but making all the videos. He also has some rust to fix and opted to do it after the chop. He touches on it a couple times
