Me too. And, I wouldn’t have it if you didn’t tell me about it and then take me to see the auction. :D

Well, I did plan to buy the car and was even the high bidder online until it went past what I wanted to pay which was before the live auction. But, then on the way to the auction I convinced myself that you don’t trip across a 40 Merc coupe that obviously needs my new chop skills  every day and the price was still pretty reasonable considering that it already had a CE parallel leaf kit and what appears to be a Ford 8” under it that would have cost most of what I might have to pay. So, when no one else threw out a bid at the auction, I “accidentally” bought it. :D

Lol! Not this time at least. She was fully on board which helped me decide to go ahead and buy it. :D After being married for 26 years, she knows me well enough to know that I only buy cars that I won’t lose money on even if I do end up having to sell at some point.

Dear , I was just standing there talking to some friends and this dang fly kept buzzing me . I kept shooing it away and the next thing I hear is SOLD to that guy over there . So I look around to see who bought the car and realize that the auctioneer was pointing at me . It happens

Did some poking around, Google Paul Hoffman Mercury, some nice photos on Kustomrama. Lots of work in that top. Seems to be the top of the windshield on these cars is raised to avoid the dreaded neanderthal unibrow look, gets the top of the windshield more lined up with the side glass. This thing is a stunner in and out!

I'm a fan of both of those engines. My 57 Bird has a 312 and my Model A has a 401 Buick. They are both fairly expensive to rebuild, but what isn't?

Exactly. Building pretty much any engine besides a sbc costs way more than they should anymore. I would like to find a rebuilt one that someone pulls out to replace with some late model or something. :D

Well, I now have more parts to find a place for since Chris just dropped off the flathead trying to clean up his shop and clutter mine up more. :D I also think I rounded up enough wheels to put some decent looking rollers on it. I measured the bolt patterns to verify that the front is still 5 on 5-1/2 pattern and the rear is 5 on 4-3/4 since it appears he may have re-drilled the axles on the 8 inch to run the cool IROC wheels. I’ll have to decide what to do with all that going forward, but I can at least get some better looking rollers on it for now.

Sometimes we don't say nothing. Years ago the wife when she still worked parked next to a new acquisition for 2 weeks before she asked me when did I get that one? I just told her oh, we owned that one for a while now. Then when I built the big toybox/shop it was easy to sneak them home until she no longer worked and then it was back to what is that?

I was good at hiding real estate too. Sometime she didn't know we owned a piece of real estate until the day I was selling it. Other times we would go on a little road cruise and pull up to a property or we would be going down the foreclosure list driving around looking at them and I would pull in and she will say something like this isn't on the list or we looked at this one last week or why I am pulling in and I just tell her it's okay we already own it, we brought it last week or whenever it was.

    Is that Merc chopped yet?

Getting closer...I am starting to consider how to re-arrange the shop so I can unload it off the trailer and get it inside.

  28. Reminds me of the time my wife said, " you can't buy any cars until you sell one."
The next week I went out and I didn't buy one car, I bought two in the same day.

  29. Yes, you will absolutely want to chop the windshield opening less than the post on this.

  30. Can't wait to see the build thread on this.
