Art & Inspiration Acetylene Smoke images

Working for my dad in his structural steel fabrication shop 40 years ago when I was just a kid, this little ***** that worked for him burned through a pair of my work gloves (had my name on them and everything) and he wouldn't replace them. So I turned his jean jacket inside out when he was gone for lunch and acetylene "smoked" the arms before turning it back right side out. When he took off the jacket at home later that night his arms were black. Hahahaha. Screw you, buddy. Still laugh about it to this day.

Like my Drill Instructor in Basic Training used to say, "Smoke 'em if you got 'em boys".

 

It has its place in Hotrod/Custom history and as alluded looks pretty awesome if applied by someone who has the knack...The realistic flames not so much...

 

And "if you don't got 'em, get one from your squad leader".

This one time, at band camp, a buddy and I were pulling an all-nighter on a '69 vette of mine trying to get color on it. We had been prepping all weekend and living on those little pink, heart shaped candies. It was time for paint, we were bouncing off the walls and needed to catch a mellow, so we lit up and thought it be *****in to blow pot smoke across the paint as it cured. It looked crazy, we are talkin magazine ****, the next big thing. I woke up in the dog bed in the corner of the shop, covered in hair and sanding dust and excitedly rushed to the booth to check the car...nothing but a nice red corvette. To this day I am not sure if it even happened. How I lived to be 65 I have no idea.

I once had a cracked steering wheel which I repaired, then when trying to work out a colour to spray it, I remembered this process. I gave the wheel a couple of coats of white, then hit it with the acetylene smoke. A few coats of clear, and it looked good after many years on my daily driver.

Wanting to do this down the center section of my 38' dash in my model A on top of a tangerine base. Been reading what I can find on info for doing it but surprisingly there isn't a whole lot of info and no real how-to videos out there.

Want to take it down the center from left to right then the top and bottom in cool vanilla, I think with the tangerine kandy base it would look awesome...
