    Two fools in a van.

My buddy Mike and I are on our way to the Lone Star Round in Austin Texas.

Mike just retired from his job working for the government today April 1, 2017. His final shift was last night. He went home this morning after work, grabbed a quick nap, threw some clothes in a bag and jumped in the van. I'm going to call him Citizen Mike. Let's see if it sticks.

This is something like the 10th time I've made the trip to this event. It's always been one of my favorite shows. This is mikes first time going to the Roundup. This should be interesting.

Glad you're "my" Fool. [emoji12]. (Is that a smoke stack or is the ACME Van just happy to see me?) [emoji104]

We covered about 450 miles today. Eastern Oregon is beautiful this time of year. Lots of time behind the wheel and not much time to post. I'll make Mike drive tomorrow so I can do a better job of covering life on the road as it unfolds.

So apparently my H.A.M.B. app decided to stop posting photos so I'll try again tomorrow morning.

No offense to your buddy Mike, I've never met the guy, but he is not an adequate substitute for ACME Gal. I want to see ACME Gal. (Maybe a pic of Mike with bunny ears would soothe my disappointment?).

HAMB road trips are always fun to tag along on, BUT great photos also need some info and location. Have a safe, fun trip. Bob

I'll let him know that as Acme Gal's stand in there are certain expectations from her fans that must be met.

This is a shot of me leaving our little piece of paradise in Bend Oregon yesterday morning. Acme Gal sent it to me.

When I think about being on this road trip I have an image something like this in my head. I imagine the van rolling thru the open spaces and small towns of this beautiful country we live in. I wonder what situations I will find myself in, who I will meet and of course what I will see.

I've always said that this trip to LSRU is like three separate vacations all back to back.

The first part is the road trip out. You leave fresh and excited, looking forward to finally getting on the road. Adventure awaits and I know at the end of it is one of the coolest towns and events ever. Plus I get to see my good friends in Austin.

The second part is being in Austin for the show. What can I say? If you've been you understand, if not you need to go find out for yourself.

The third part is the trip home. Always bitter sweet. Tired from lack of sleep, thousands of miles of driving, a long non stop party called LSRU I'm faced with an equally long drive home. Now it is an adventure too, because we always meet new people and see new things but the trip I've spent all year looking forward to is behind me and I know the reality of being back at work is only a few days away.

Today we are in Twin Falls Idaho. My traveling pal Mike is transitioning from a night shift schedule so I'm thinking he may sleep a while this morning. Once we get started I will do my best to get right out and find cool stuff to tell you about today.

    Stay tuned.

Snake river bridge in Twin Falls ID. Last year we saw base jumpers and even managed to get a cool slo mo video of a guy doing a front roll jump. You can go see it on last years road trip here on the H.A.M.B. This year it's cold and windy so no jumpers. [IMG]

Citizen Mike at the wheel of the Acme Van for the first time. Honestly, we are both a little nervous.

Yesterday in Burns Oregon we stopped at the remains of the Edward Hines lumber mill. The smokestack and some old foundations is all that remains today. This was built in the early 1930's from brick, then covered in concrete that is about 2' thick. It stands 251' tall.

I can only imagine the effort and ingenuity it took to do this.
