That's a dynamite video! Who's on guitar? I once saw a film with Robert Stack racing an early T Bird (55' -56' ? ) at a So. Cal. drag strip.

Stack ran a pair of 'D' downdraft Winfields, SR's I think. There is a guy in Las Vegas that grew up almost next door to Ed Winfield and is building a replica of the Bob Stack car.

Definitely not Robert Stack gow job
in above post showing pre-War lakes film footage.
    Besides the obvious inconsistencies
such as p***enger car grill shell, splash apron still intact, wrong wheels and tires, etc,
    there are many others.
My conversations with Robert Stack indicated he never installed that blower on his four banger,
was just "handling it" in the Universal Studios publicity shot.
Besides, the blower on the car in the footage is the earlier style McCulloch.
The guy pushing the car is clearly not Robert Stack
in stature, coloring, or facial features.
I indeed am the extremely fortunate fellow
that owns the original Model B Cragar OHV converted engine

that Robert Stack ran at the dry lakes pre-War.
I am endeavoring to do an accurate replication of his roadster built around that motor.
    Thanks for mentioning it.
Anybody having additional photographs of Bob Stack's Model A roadster
not commonly seen I'd appreciate a heads up!

In addition to cars Robert Stack was a lifelong shooter. He was a Champion ***** shooter and taught gunnery to pilots in WW11. He wrote several gun books and a column in Shooting Times for many years.

Man, is that ever true. You read an old interview like that and it sounds like you're listening to him talk. But of course he's been dead many years now and (at least for me) it makes me wonder what happens to us all? I don't know. Maybe I'm just in a stupid reflective mood but this life is short for ALL of us, just shorter for some. Gotta enjoy what you enjoy and it sounds like Mr. Stack spent a lifetime enjoying his hobbies, friends and his success. Good job Bob, wherever you are!

I did not know he was a car guy I did know that Gable was a real big gear head. There is a photo I seen some years ago with him next to the 31 with a very healthy looking late V-8 flatty he came out from Ohio in he kept for many years where did it go?

A follow up to my Oct. 11th '13 posting...When I originally obtained the Stack Cragar, and other mechanical and drivetrain components that were part of his pre war build, the seller informed me that the body and ch***is still existed. After four years of advertising for the whereabouts of same in many forums, I was contacted by a fellow who claimed he had traded Wes Cooper for the body and ch***is somewhere around 1964. After speaking with the guy by telephone for 8 weeks, I finally went to inspect it in person. It appears (by all of the individual and unique details) to in fact be the Stack car. It is, and has been a "street rod" since the 60's....( red, black diamond tuft, sbc etc.) At the time the guy did not want to sell regardless of my explanations and pleadings about correct restoration, reuniting the parts to make the original whole, or references to "history" or "significance"... He just did not care...This was last year, The situation has changed and it is now available. I will follow up later when there is news.

Go with best of luck, David...Two so far have slipped thru my anxious fingers, one I waited 20 years for. (Family member, to boot!)
I now have a few good projects (alas, most are '27 T's, whose smallish bodies won't quite welcome MINE! But...that '32 roadster has to be out there somewhere, and the time is gettin' right.)
Please report as soon as you can...I spent a few hours with a gent that bought Clark Gable's '35 Phaeton from the estate, just pure luck.

Just a note about Stack's "Untouchable" television show. I was in high school during it's heyday and my dad watched it every week. I liked the old cars being a part of the show. I remember a report stating that the other networks might as well be off the air during the broadcast of that show.
