Projects Adapting model A traditional steering to '46 spindels.

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by 1931fordtruck, May 14, 2014.

  1. I would like to keep the model A column and the box. Can i adapt the side steering to '46 spindels? Im using the stock wishbone set up and axle.

You'll have to add an upper steering arm such as those hoop style so you can hook up your drag link.

  3. This is how I did it. You will need to add the ball to your steering arm if you are planning on using the stock drag link.

It is just 1/4" plate I heated and bent to clear the grease fitting and then I made the steering follow the shape of my axle. IMO it is much better looking and sturdier than the hoop method

  4. Ford Mike,
Do you have a pic of the whole thing hooked up? Did you stay with the stock model A axle?

  5. Not off hand, I've actually just taken the front end back apart to install a dropped A axle. The axle I was running in the picture was a 33-36 axle which isn't a whole lot different from an a axle. Sorry for the long response time, I couldnt find the thread again!
