Has anyone adapted/mated a GM (or other) power steering pump to a 49 Merc Ford Flat? I'm dropping the engine into an S-10 ch***is that has a power steering gear box.

    Thanks

yes i did it years ago, but i do not have any photos. i made brackets to mount it on the driver side head and used a second pulley on the crank. the tricky part was i cut two pulleys, the one that mounted to the gm pump and a chevy 6 cylinder 5/8 crank pulley. i machined the out side of the pump pulley off and cut the inside of the wide pulley out then welded them together. this allowed the use of the wide belt.

Thanks ..sounds like your more of a mechanic than me.. seems like I'm being persuaded to go the easy way and just swap out for a manual box.

The '49 has wide pulleys, an obstacle to building wit a late model pump. If you are not using early Ford type mounting, swap your pumps and all pulleys for one of the '50
-53 Ford setups and you'll have modern belt widths. From there on it's just bracketry.
