I'm trying to get my 57 roadmaster roadworthy and not having $500 to shell out for a rebuilt brake booster I decided to get a universal 7" and dual master cylinder. Since the factory master only had one port, can I just tee off the two lines coming out of the new master and hook up the single factory line too it?
how about connecting one port to the front brakes, and the other to the rear brakes? that's why there are two ports
Or round yourself up a junction block from a factory dual chamber master car that had all drum brakes and plumb the lines accordingly. I figure they were built that way for a reason.
Yep, just use both ports. It'll probably stop better and be dare I say "safer", if one pair of brakes leaks or fails at least you have the other two to stop with. Not sure of your brake line routing but splitting the system by capping off the connector to the rear and adding a couple feet of line from the new MC port to were it is split off is all that needs to be done. Use an adjustable proportioning valve to the rear to get the bias adjustment right. The factory prop valves were usually set-up for a specific vehicle based on vehicle weight and weight/axle bias and may cause more problems than solutions. Keep it simple and cheap. Marty McFly
Thanks Marty, thats what I was thinking- K.I.S.S. I figured just hooking up the one line from the factory was simpler than messing around with proportioning valves and such. I figued the guys at Buick know more about how that car should stop than I. Plus I don't want to over build a system that is still 4 drums. Wouldn't that be like putting a new flint in a disposable lighter?
