I currently have a 54 Bel Air with the original 235 motor. Short term goal, I NEED to add AC. Long term goal, I'd like to drop a small block crate engine. Can I add AC now and then "transfer" over when I get the new engine, or is that foolish? I don't know much about aftermarket ACs.

Also, how much would an AC affect the performance of a 235? It runs great now, but it's not the fastest thing in the world! I love driving my baby, but holding up traffic just gets awkward. =)

I'm an amateur here, so any help is greatly appreciated.

You would have to get new compressor mounts, pulleys and hoses, the rest of the stuff would swap..... compressor, drier, condensor etc.

depending on how long your going to keep the 6 banger. the new compressors dont drag as bad as the old ones but they do take away some power.your choice i know summer in fla with no air is tough.

Contact Vintage Air, they can fix you up with everything you need.

  5. The brackets for the 235 can be found on ebay or Vintage Air.
Just make sure you design the a/c hoses to work with the V8.

Cool. Thats a relief. The 350 is a dream. Sounds like I'm not crazy to push my 235 with an ac. That's awesome.

    Thanks for the replies gentlemen!
