I’m really lazy . my 40 merc with SBF and an AOD if shifting into high far to early . I know you need a pressure gauge hooked up to adjust the tv cable , or valve correctly . Any way to cheat it ? Is there a measure t I can do or something like that , don’t have my gauges with me and don’t want this dragging till next week end . SBF , AOD Lokar tv cable and edelbrock carb .
IIRC when I bought the Lokaar TV cable for my 302/AOD combo it came with general instructions and a tool for adjusting. I can check later to see if I can find them
Don’t try and cheat this one.You have to adjust it with a gauge.Pulling the cable tighter to make it shift later is just wrong. The cable has to be adjusted to get the right tv pressure not shift points.
The TV cable has to have the exact same travel as the throttle cable. That’s why the geometry of the bracket is crucial, both cables have to be the same distance off the carb throttle shaft and in the same plane, if one is forward of center, the other has to be rear of center the same amount. With the throttle cable at wot, you want the TV cable to be fully pulled also. The way they set them on the****embly line was open the throttle, pull the clip out of the TV cable, then stick it in where it pulled to , locking it in position. My trans guy said do mine that way, so I did. I carried it back on the trailer to let him check it before I started driving, he said it was spot on. I’m using factory Ford cables on a Summit Holley clone carb with a homemade geometry corrector bracket, so your Edelbrock carb and Lokar cable may be a little different, but the general idea is the same.
I have the same setup as the OP and this is exactly how I setup my TV cable. No issues with how it shifts.
Don't skip the gauge, it's way to easy, unless you want to burn up a transmission quickly. Sure, you might get lucky but I know many who didn't. Myself for one.
