    Hey Fellas.

248ci Straight eight. Just had .075 milled off her and reinstalled.

Obviously it's time to re-adjust the rocker arms. I know that the feeler gauge should slip between the springs and the end of the arm.

How do I do this so that it doesnt sound like I've filled the engine with Jacks when I fire her up for the 1st time?

    Thanks

I'd say leave the spark plugs out to make things easier for starts and with all the rockers loose, rotate the engine clockwise till the intake push rod on no.1 cylinder is on it's way down. Then continue to turn the crank till the 0 mark on the dampner or pulley lines up with the 0 mark on the tab. You are now at TDC with both lifters on their base circles on no.1 and you can adjust both valves on this cylinder. After you've adjusted no. 1, continue through the firing order making sure the piston is at or close to TDC by looking into the plug hole or by using some kind of a probe. When you do each valve, the pushrod should be at it's lowest point. If not you may need to double check something.

Actually between the arm and the valve stem! But also check the vale end of the arm for a groove worn in it,if so they can be resurfaced. Real hard to get a good adjustment with wear there.

You may need to shim the rocker stands ... check the Tech Archives.
