I will even go this far- it is nearly impossible to avoid it if you make a living with your hands in any capacity, even in the USA. Inevitably some equipment, or even component/widget/accessory comes from someplace else and will be drawn in metric.

Yes eventually everything or most everything manufactured will be metric. 4 years ago on the last project I worked on before retiring, almost all the equipment we installed was metric. A large percentage of this production line was American manufactured. All of our flatheads, SBCs etc will always be imperial but I’m thinking we’ll have to learn to adapt metric stuff to our old stuff to keep it running. I’m not sure why so many people have an aversion to metric. It’s easy peasy

Did a lot of converting in the 90’s during my last round of wood working. My latter phase of working with the material was designing and cutting knives for the 5 head molding machine from Germany. Reference points all ways started metric to finish out in inch’s. It’s everywhere. Get use to it.

Easy but is it necessary , didn't seem to need it until the late 60's , we learned one system in this country & used it , wasn't until accomodations were made to offshore manufacturing that it became relevant .

It’s not necessary in the pure sense, but none the less eventually everything will be metric. Our old American iron hot rods will always be imperial. Our Hot Rod Brothers in other countries were raised in and use the metric system their machine tools etc are likely metric as well as most measurement tools. The least we can do when conversing with our brothers is try to understand their language and measurement system as best we can ! There are converters for language as well as English to Metric etc. Easy to use although not perfect. The world is always changing we can adapt or we can become insignificant our choice.

Or they can understand ours . Forget what percentage of the world population speaks English , but it's the predominant language .

I think it is worthy to note that even European countries don't use the metric system for everything. Take golf for example. I have played several courses in the UK and Ireland, and you can always count on yardage, not meters on golf courses. And that even applies to the old course at St. Andrews where the game originated some 4 centuries ago. And my caddie and I put down several "pints" of beer at the Dunvegan after the round.
