Advice needed 8BA flathead dissasembly

    Thanks in advance.... I am BRAND new to wrenching, andI am in the process of dissassembling a 1959 (Oops, 1949, not enough coffe)(?) 8BA flathead. I'm at the point where I need to take off the starter, water pumps, and the heads. The rest came off very easily, with only 1 broken bolt, the one that holds the distributor clamp on, but there is enough of the bolt showing that I think it will be easy to remove.

    I have removed all 4 bolts from each of the water pumps, and they dont seem to want to come off. Suggestions?

    I have removed the screws holding the starter in place (I am 90% sure I got them all) but all it does is wiggle a bit, and won't come off.

    Up to this point all of the bolts came off just using a wrench, and hand power, no breaker bars necessary. I DO have a compressor and air tools.

    What is the best way to get the head bolts off? Any tricks? Thanks!

    Water pumps have a bolt inside in the inlet. They will come off if the 4 bolts are out. The starter has two bolts thru the end cap that go all the way thru to the mount. There is a brace but it is under one of the long bolts. A hammer tap may be required. The heads are tough. Just get a brakeover bar and have at it. You may break a bunch.

    Can't be a 1959; last year for 8BA's was 1953 in US and 1954 in Canada

    Sorry, Its between a '49 and a '53. Thats what I get for typing before I have my morning coffee..

    Got them off, only broke 1 bolt! Ok, 2 if you count the distributor clamp bolt.

    If you got the bolt inside the water inlet neck, they're probably hanging up from the gasket. Fairly large surface...
    Go gentle with the head bolts, there aren't many threads in the deck surface and the bolts go through to the water jackets so the threads on the bolts can be rusted up a bit.
