okay, my brother and I are currently setting up the 496 big block chevy for my 47 chevy coupe. We are gonna run a dual-quad setup with Edelbrock 600cfm carbs. now, the plan from the very start was to run progressive linkage, since, along with taking the car to the track, i will be driving it around town most every day and also on trips on the freeway. well, the guy i talked to about carbs, who has a lot of experience with dual setups, said the progressive linkage was a waste and it doesn't help the drivablity. he said the best thing to do would be to just run the carbs together. now, i was just wondering what your guy's take on the matter was and what are the different pros and cons to each situation. any help would be appreciated. thanks!-fleet
in my experience, progressive linkages are a benefit on setups that run several smaller carbs, and particularly on a small displacement motor (my 200 straight-six runs real well with triple-carb intake set up with autolite 1100s and the matching progressive linkage). my buddy ran dual quads with a prog linkage on his gto 400, and we never got that sucker sorted out. so i would say either stick with running both carbs straight across, or get yourself a single four-barrel, speaking of which, are you sure your motor needs 1200 cfm? seems like a hell of a lot, even for a big-block.
thanks for all of the help. that clears things up a bit. the 2 carbs were recommended by both the guy who built the motor and a friend who has a blown chevelle that runs in the tens. he know his stuff. so i am gonna trust him on this.
