image.jpeg I'm planning on mounting a Kaiser grille bar in my 50. I need some direction on how to mount it to the grille shell. Thank you.

Do you think your Kaiser grill bar idea would look much better if you added 2 or 3 more horizontal Kaiser grille bars to fill the big void and compliment your nice custom front sheet metal. The opening of the Merc grille shell is so big that it usurps and creates a void that captures your eye instead of the single grille bar. More grille bars are needed to fill the void.

If you do that, you would mount the 3 or four grille bars on a separate frame as a complete unit that you then bolt to the inside of your Merc grille shell. Paint the frame same color as car body.

Also, incorporate turn signals into the frame where your vent openings are - one on each side of grille shell. Your custom frenched headlights and sheet metal work is georgeous.

Another idea you might want to consider is using two 1965 Mustang front bumpers instead of Kaiser bars. Cut and weld the bumpers to fit with rounded ends so as to create a "floating grille". It would look great. I've never seen that done.

Folks sometimes use the 3 piece 1956 Chrysler Royal Windsor grille bars as shown here along with other ideas. Open and scroll down.

I know originally, the Kaiser bar stood on little stands and bolted to the bumper valance panel, and you can stack them up if you have two or three, one bolts to the pan and one bolts to the top of the first one, etc.

The one in the picture must have brackets on the underside that go back to connect to either side of the radiator core support. I think it looks a bit lonely with only one, those bars are really thin in height, but that's just my opinion.
