Interesting! you must have some input on totals of zink levels with a 1/2 bottle! I'd like more information

Amsoil makes a ZRod oil in 10-30 and 20-50 if you want to run synthetic with the zinc already in it. Also has some corrosion inhibitors for motors that sit for a while.

  3. I wouldn't say "Top Dollar". The Valvoline isn't much higher than the Yellow bottles of sludge.

    A quart of Valvoline VR1 20w50 is $5.29
A quart of Brad Penn 20w50 is $5.47
Joe Gibbs is expensive. Kendall is cheap.

Yeah Rotella is all I ever use in my Diesels. Personally never used it in my own gasoline vehicles, but a guy I know uses it in everything, including his wife's newer Toyota.

CJ diesel is reduced zinc, apparently down to SM level where I've seen jugs marked SM/CJ

I've heard they've reduced the zinc even in the Rotella. I'd be concerned that it doesn't have enough.

  7. As long as the oil label does not say energy conserving,it has zinc.Zinc or moly additives are typically needed for performance engines with high spring pressures at break in.During normal use ,not much is needed.

  8. zinc causes early converter failure.Thats why its reduced.Japanese oil uses moly additives, superior to zinc.Moly is used in gear oils and trans fluid.Stp oil treatment has a high level of zinc.

Do some research! Oils change all the time. You need to know the current specs on what you plan on running. You can go to most oil company websites and find the specs on the current blend they are selling.
Valvoline VR-1 or most HDEO oils will work. But you need to check the specs. I think the new Quaker state DEFY is designed for older flat tappet engines.
I have been running Redline oil in my Harleys for many years but it is pricey.

I read somewhere that the Kendall name was sold off and the old Kendall formula is now the Brad Penn Oil. As for Valvoline, it's all I've ever ran for damn near fifty years with no problems. Some recent testing rate the VR-1 as having the highest zinc content of those tested...

The comp cam guys said to run a bottle of there cam break in oil with every change.
Im sure a half bottle will do, they're probably a little biased but he said the reason is due to the lack of zinc in most oil bought today.

That's true. Brad Penn is the old green Kendall oil from years ago.
