I've got a question about the possible pros & cons of choosing taller tires and/or going from 14-inch to 15-inch wheels on my '57 Bel-Air. In the past, I've always been able to tell the difference in ride quality when choosing a taller tire (i.e., going from a 205/70-R14 to a 205/75-R14). That little difference usually provides a bit of a softer ride. Currently, I am running 205/75-R14s on stock '57 wheels. With new shocks and springs all around, would upgrading to 15-inch wheels with 205/75-R15s do anything at all to soften the ride? Or would they just fill up the wheel wells more? Again, I am trying to get the softest ride possible. New rubber body mounts are also on my shopping list. Any thoughts? Thanks!
I do know that the larger the diameter, the easier the tire rides over expansion joints and pot holes. On a T it makes a huge difference. On a 57 Chevy, I don't know if the difference will be noticable, but it can't hurt.
I do not think going from a 75 series tire to another 75 series tire would do much, sidewall is plenty tall on either tire for a decent ride. What is wrong with how the car rides? I would mess with springs and / or shocks before the tire change, it isnt like you are running 40 series tires now.
drptop70ss is right - even a delicate butt wouldn't note the difference in ride quality, but from a looks POV, it may be an improvement. Don't be afraid - see what you reckon.
