I've got a couple of early '60s AFB's on my nailhead. I rebuilt them before using them and they are in good condition. These are the first AFB's I've messed with so bear with me.
I've got them set up with solid linkage. It idles good and the jets seem about right for WOT and higher RPM driving. I've checked the plugs and they look abought right.
The do however seem awful rich just off idle. I believe I need to find a leaner metering rod and or springs???

I figured I would get one of those Carter Strip kits and try some different combos 'til it was right. Unfortunately I cant find one anywhere.

Would the Edelbrock parts fit these carbs?

Any tips or help would be appreciated.

  2. No Edelbrock and AFB's are different...go to Jegs .com they have the kits you need..I can get them locally if you need them also..

The Carb Shop off Sunset drive in Waukesha should have the parts you need in stock.

If they don't I know the Carb Shop in West Allis will have them...!

    Good Luck

Thanks Mark. I'll try the local places. In researching I found a Mopar Performance number for those kits. Last choice I'll try a dealership.

CAS..keep us updated on your progress, ok? I'm planning on using a matched pair of AFB's [originally for 59-64 Pontiac 389's] on my 389. Having never changed a jet in one, I'd be interested to know how you do on this adventure...
