    Awesome another survivor.

  6. That's pretty cool that you were able to hang on to it all this time. Then to bring it back around for another round with the asphault is really cool.

Lots of great responses. You guys are alright.I do intend to use paint on the lettering.Chris,I will send Rick an E.Planning to see him this weekend.
This is a snapshot of a photo hanging on my wall wearing the factory black and ivory. It was taken by my brother in November 1969 at South Glens Falls Dragway.Dig the homemade loose interpretation of the Grump lump.Made it before I got the tunnel ram and found out that the carbs barely stuck through the hood. That didn't last long. It's a pretty early shot of the car.

  11. Damn neat car!

Where did you come up with the name?

Reason I ask... I was in a town last week in TN called Bucksnort.

Took this picture there... no lie.

    Sam.

There is actually a town named Bucksnort?Did not know that.
Back when we were painting the car in early 70's a few of us were in an all night truck stop.We decided to think of a name for the wagon. There were a bunch of corny jokes on signs hanging all around the place. One had two hunters on one side of bushes. On the other side another hunter was taking a dump.1 of the 2 guys said"I just heard a bucksnort".We thought that was a great word.We added the "Ol'"to give it some class, cuz we just ooze it.Right.

I cant wait to see pics of it redone and doing a burnout. That old pic you posted of it is great.Lots of history ,glad you held on to it for all these years.Oh,and welcome to the Hamb.We need more guys like you on here .I wish i woulda kept my 57 wagon that i bought when i was 15.It had the original black paint ,and someone had used it for a drag car before i got it.It still had the ladder bars and 12 bolt from a Camaro with 4.56 gears. It had chevelle bucket seats in the front and the whole interior had been done in black naugahyde diamond tuck .I bought it for $400 bucks and pulled it home with chain behind my dads truck.I put a 350 and a muncie 4spd. in it out of a wrecked nova i bought for $200 bucks .The guy i got it from told me it had been a drag car in the late 60's with a 327 and 2X4's and a 4spd. till he blew the motor and then it sat in his barn until he sold it to me in 1986 .I got it running and driving and then traded it for a 65 chevy truck like a dummy.I think my mom may have a pic of it some where .If she does i will scan it and post it...

  15. Been thinking, I would like to bang some gears again too, time to get the 6o Chevy finished, was going to put a 700r in it but I think a 4 or 5 speed is going in now. Like your car Man, stay COOL!!!!!

Yep,we all have those"what an idiot"feelings for the cars we have let go of.$400 won't buy you much now.Sounds like it was a neat car.
I was league bowling back in'67 and telling my teammates I was looking for a 2dr tri five wagon.A guy on the opposing team heard me and said he had a 57.Checked it out the next day.He ran a fishing camp on the Hudson River and was using it off road to haul worms, leaves etc.6cyl,auto,motor set up so it was just sitting.Gave him $30 and towed it home with a chain.Just right place, right time.A real fluke.

You know, when you see a nice ride and you go check it out,at least with me,there are two distinctly different first impressions when you see a clutch pedal or an automatic. Its like'Hey its got a stick.Great" or "its automatic".Just gives me a different vibe with the stick and a smile on the face.
Ran a Super T-10 in the wagon.Thats long gone but I do have an early Doug Nash 5spd.Ran that in a '67 Camaro,C/SM,that used to be the Jesel Brothers car.Had to convert the 5 to a 4 spd when NHRA decided thats all you can run in super mod.Life got in the way after that and did not get to put any runs on the 4 spd tranny so its still a virgin and its still sitting on a shelf in the garage,Christ, that thing is over 30 years old also.I am a little bit of a pack rat.

transform the old and decrepid to shiney works of automotive history.

Not on it,s own it doesn,t ! The Master Of Rusty Diaster plays his part

Helped take another 55 Nomad off it yesterday, and reunited it the body and frame. Was a wonderful Ceramony. Wasn,t a dry eye in the Garage

Been puttering here and there.Short block is built.
The big problem is the company I sold product for went bankrupt.
Now I am back to my old job working 3x as hard and at maybe
half the $.Much rather be self employed again.
I owned a franchise for Archway cookies and, due to an investment
firm taking it over a couple of years back, they ran it into the ground.Stripped it clean,
filed and left with the loot.Sound familiar?
Archway was called Mothers west of the Mississippi so after
    75 years they are toast.
Been trying to deal with it,gets you down a little, but I have a
great wife and seem to be climbing out of my funk and getting
    my hands dirty again.

  23. Feels good to get an ol friend back on the strip don't it. My 37 Ford sat in garage from 62 to 86 and finally after thinking if I don't soon do it I'll be gone ,man time flies don't it . Keep us posted with progress, Hank

A tip of the hat to ya...I respect that spirit and sentiment. Been there. Nothing like this stuff to make everything else, and I mean almost EVERYTHING, trivial in the grand scheme of things.

I too had to close up shop, took a job, cared for and lost parents, physical challenges, it never goes away. You stop and look at what you've done, past and present that makes you smile from way down deep, all of a sudden it feels like "problem solved". Sometimes even better things come from it too. I think you know what I mean...

Welcome to the HAMB board bucksnort. Just saw the thread this morning and had to see what it was about. Great story about the wagon and am happy you are bringing it back to life after so many years. I hope you get it together for some strip action next summer. Keep us posted on the progress. If you need anything to get it on the track let us know, we may have the parts you need. Good to see another greybeard racer on the board.

    Well,thanks for asking.
    Damn time zooms by,doesn't it?
    Did get windshield in,painted interior.
Got both a 311" & 337" shortblock sitting in the garage along with a set of Brownfield heads.
Since I am on unemployment and social security I have time to do stuff.Never made a lot of money so with those 2 it is pretty much the same bucks as when I was working.Unfortunately,as my wife reminds me,got too much going on and my attention span is always jumping around.
But it should not take much more $ to finish as I have just about all I need to move toward completion. The work ethic has to improve.:)
Got to focus this winter,no more bullshit.
Appreciate your post,it helps to light the fire.
