  1. Couldnt have said it any better, show come and go but good jobs that allow you to live the lifestyle you like and do the things you like to do dont come all the often.

  2. the whole idea of losing your job because you have plans for YOUR OWN weekend is insane. your not a possesion like a stapler, is there a "property of" sticker on your back?. your off time is your time and they shouldn't bully you into what they want. if you are the top seller then they should want you to be around. my reply to his "you go to car shows all the time therefore I can certainly give up one weekend to attend this seminar" would have been something like "i come to work everyday does that mean i can give up a few days during the week to go to a car show".

    remember...........it's only a job.
family first (which includes the hamb)
cars second (it's more the just a hobby)
    work third

Well I'm on the fence here. I did the "give it up" once for my employers and today I wouldn't piss down most of their throats if their guts were on fire. These self serving pricks cost me $500 from backing off the last minute on a Carribean trip that I was OKd for months prior. Sad thing is it wasn't the owner it was a direct supervisor that I still work with. Had I stuck to my decision there would have been no flack but I was also troubled with a looming family tragedy and didn't see things clearly. I HATE this place. My attitude of ME 1ST!! has worked ok so far but there's always a chance. I didn't read this whole thread. I did see something about photo credits. Does this mean you were credited/paid for shooting the event? If so that's your second vocation, isn't it? You're in a media buisness. You ain't dumb, girl. Think it through and rationalize your BEST move. Any possible benefit to the co you work for being at this event? Can you make one up and really sincerely try it?

I for one don't buy this jobs are scarce shit. I'm only out of work if I stop working. Ok my situation is different than most and I have other offers pending as we speak (read?) but I don't like the security factor and am in a compromise at the moment to the best one to get it more successful. How many media companies are in the Metro Detroit market? Did you ever try to move on? How much perceived "power" do you have in your position? Many can do my job but not many, IF ANY, can do it as well. Are you in that position? If so do they see it?

Boy am I an arrogant pompous asshole, huh? Yes the truth hurts as far as employement obligations and nobody says you have to like it. I hope whatever choice you make takes the right turns for ya. You probably could miss this thing and attend the seminar. You get paid for it, right? My gut says do as YOU really want to and you won't get hurt since you're as good as you say. But there's also the "give back" factor. Missing one may pay off as getting to attend several others that you may otherwise not have been able to.
