AH CRAP!.....DON'T SHOOT your Car!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jeff Norwell, Mar 26, 2008.

  1. Leon you may be right but Ford is still a bunch of *****s. When Superrformance wanted to build replica Cobra Daytona Coupes Ford told them they wouldn't release the rights to the car and they would sue if they copied it.
Funny thing is, Ford has NEVER owned the rights to the car, the designer Pete Brock did and he happily let Superformance copy the car!

look at what they did a few years ago to Obsolete Ford in Oklahoma city. Not to bad a place to deal with but got sued by the big guys and had to drop the "ford" out of their company name and they had been around forever!

All OEM's have discovered the value of licensing their brand and protecting the image. Plus, Ford and GM are losing billions every year so they have directed all divisions to bring in every dollar thet can. GM and Chrysler seem to handle the situation in a professional maner. Fords lawyers are out of control! The cl***ic Mustang world is in total turmoil right now.

Several of our ad clients have been threatened into changing their business names (removing Ford, Mustang, Pony, and Stang) even though they own registered business names for 20+ years.

My wife used to be the publisher of several major Mustang magazines and she was denied the use of any Mustang images on the magazine's own t-shirts!

Another client has used the "8 OVER V" symbol in their registered logo for over 30 years yet Ford's lawyers demanded they drop the image EVEN THOUGH FORD DID NOT REGISTER NOR OWN THE RIGHTS TO THE V8 SYMBOL!!!
"Tough luck, we have more lawyers than you".

At some point somebody will have to drop the bucks to fight this "car's image is our property" ****. I think I need to change my HAMB handle.

why dont you guys see the bright side of this huh?

if they can charge US for using their designs then WE can charge them for improving and advertising there products... after all... you dont want to do all
that customization and showing off of your ford for nothing right?

    say... $2000 a car show $18,000 a photo in a magazine and $30,000
for every time they get there cars advertised by YOU on the Television.

After a lot of reading I finally found this...

My name is Whitney Drake and I work in Ford Communications.
We've been watching this discussion with interest and I'd like to
clarify what is essentially a misunderstanding.

Yesterday we spoke to both Cafe Press and the Black Mustang Club
and explained the situation (about the Black Mustang Club’s calendar) to everyone's satisfaction. Ford has no problem with Mustang or other car owners taking pictures of their vehicles for use in club materials like calendars. What we do have an issue with are individuals using Ford’s logo and other trademarks for products they intend to sell. Understandably, we have to take the protection of our brands and licensing very seriously.

Ford did not send the Black Mustang Club a “cease and desist” letter telling them that they could not use images of their own cars in their calendar. The decision not to allow the calendars to be printed was made by Cafe Press, because we had gotten in touch with them in the past about trademark infringements on products they sold.

The Black Mustang Club, and any other Ford enthusiast club, are free to take pictures of their own vehicles for use in calendars or other materials as long as they don't use Ford trademarks in products that will be sold.

I think it is great that the Black Mustang Club, and any other enthusiast club, would take pictures of their own vehicles for use in calendars or other materials.

I'm looking forward to purchasing a copy to hang in the garage next
to my Mustang (even if mine isn't black).

Thanks for giving us the chance to have our say

    BTW...

Isnt the name BMC owned by the British Motor Cooperation? :D

Over on Mopowerstyle.com the same thing happened last year with the DC folks and cafe express. It started with cafe express alerting the site it could not sell the Moparstyle merchandise and ended with Moparstyle changing it's name to Mopowerstyle eliminating Mopar from the name.

    So it ain't just Ford.

New ford is ****, I heard about that a long time ago.
IMO if you added up all GM truck sales they would far surp*** Ford's sales.

Sadly, probably not - the remains of BMC are owned by the Chinese (MG/Rover), the Germans (Mini), and of course today Ford (US) have just sold Range Rover to the Injuns (along with Jaguar). :(

I just kinda retired from Ford last August, I took a buyout, It was the best job I ever had. I know that the Big 3 is hurtin now, with the higher price of fuel, and the economy being bad and talk about a recession. I hope this is not true, if so Fords leadership is in worst shape than I could have ever imagined, god bless HOT RODDERS & BLUE COLLAR WORKERS. :D

They did. If you notice any of the new Rat Fink shirts have no mention of Chevy or an image of a Chevy.

No, it ain't. Chevy Duty, a company that sells repro parts and panels for Chevy pickups was forced to change their name to Cl***ic Parts of America.

What about all those cameras in the cities takin' pics of Fords runnin' Red Lights? Next time you Ford owner gets a ticket, call a Ford Lawyer and sue. It just keeps gettin' Nutser and Nutser.
