Help me make up my mind!!

I have been tossing around the idea of running only a windshield in my A sedan ie no side gl*** or top. Kinda like a roadster'ish sedan... rodan?.. sedanster?..

I have also drawn up plans to 'hard top' the sedan as well. The problem with this plan is the added structure up top with no real gain in performance....

If I go with no gl*** I want to fabricate steel garnish mouldings and weld'em in on the back windows and fill the door channels too.

The reason for all this contemplation is the repair work needed on the b-pillars. I would almost be easier to hack the whole mess out....

    So what do you think....

    1. Gl*** all around
    2. Hard-topped (no gl***, no b-pillars)
    3. No-gl*** with steel garnish moulding

    Any ideas?

I was thinking roll-back roof too - kinda VW style - or a tinnerman clipped tonneau cover - British car style.

I drove my A sedan for nearly a year, with only a plexi. winshield and no top.. Pretty cool in the summer, but when it rained, hey you'll get wet. no biggie. I like the hardtopped idea, like the Lil' Coffin. Let the ideas in your head be your guide,my friend. You ARE diffrent,as you know.:D Spark**

the idea of no gl*** and welding up the garnish molding will screw you later when you get sick of that look. It is 10 time more work to undo then do it right in the first place.

Welding sheetmetal over the top does give you a performance gain; it greatly smooths out the airflow. Side windows do too but like you I would be riding with them down anyway.

This is the biggest thing that I am worried about. I am building this car to eventually sell so this concerns me a little (I love the building more than the driving). One of my ideas is to bolt the steel or aluminum mouldings in istead of welding....

How often do you roadster pilots get caught in the rain?

Would the hard-top look overcome the lack of side curtains?

    Thanks

A guy named Rolf here in Australia did it with a 28-29 A tudor sedan. I have seen it at a couple of runs a few years ago. It was in grey primer and I think he sold it to someone down in Melbourne. Maybe one of the guys like Peddro has seen it down there and may know who has it now, and may be able to get a couple of pictures of it for you.

    Regards

That's what I was thinking. And a sedan with no gl*** to me would just look like a sedan missing the gl***

Hardtopping it sounds pretty cool, but the roof might be kinda flimsy without some extra support added in. You could have gl*** in it after it was hardtopped and it would be pretty cool.

This is more of what I was thinking.... (insert attached pic here...)

Lil Coffin is *****'n but a little too over the top for me....

I have already mapped the internal support for the topped roof including a hopeful solution to my other problem... The front roof tops will be welded to the doors and open accordingly... So my rear roof section will be cantilevered off the back... Should look ritcheous...

Anybody gots pics of that Aussie A?
