air bag system troubleshooting

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by atotalnincompoop, Jul 21, 2010.

  1. i have waited 2 days for airbagit.com to return my email, they have not, they have been slow in the past with returning emails regarding trouble with my system, so now i am forced to turn to the hamb for help.
i have a air bag system in my 58 caddy, a couple of days ago, the compressor would not shut off, it finally tripped the reset button and shut off, i reset it, and everything was ok until just now, upon airing the car back up, again the compressor would not shut off again, even when i would hit the system power switch, it wouild keep going, it finally shut off , this time without tripping the reset.
the automatic shut off in done through a pressure switch on the tank, wire to the solenoid.
could the solenoid have an internal fault that doesn't shut it down when it receives a signal from the pressure switch?

i would say your pressure switch is bad maybe moisture rusted it up or something i would recommend installing a pop off valve or blow off valve i forgot the name that will let the air out if the max of the tank is reached cause something will pop
take the pressure switch out and inspect it
i dont think your solenoid is stuck but it could be who knows

  3. thank you, i will drain the tank, check the pressure switch and replace, i think i will replace the solenoid as well just in case.

  4. while the compressor was running, i pulled both of the wires off of the pressure switch and touched them together, should this not of shut off the compressor?

  5. if you pull off either wire to the pressure switch it should shut the compressor off. if you touch them together the compressor should start again.

  6. the compressor runs with them off or on, one off or both

First, call for ?'s do not e-mail, e-mail will get put off. Second, check for any air leaks with a bottle of soapy water. Leaks will allow compressor to run on. Finally connecting the pressure switch wires will bypass the switch.

Do you have a pressure gage? If so, when does the compressor shut off.

don't take this the wrong way but, that company sells nothing but import equipment, thats why it's so cheap. Without seeing your wiring job, and without an additional pressure gauge on your fill tank to see when it should be quitting, it's a guess.

i hate to sound like the pessimist, but that company is known for sub-par parts. the pressure switch is bad from the sounds of it...as others said. get you a very good pressure switch (adjustable would be good) and get you some quality relays...don't use what they send you.

  13. If the compressor runs without the wires on the pressure switch your relay must be bad. Your relay is a switch it's self. If it's bad it could allow the power from the battery to the compressor and the compressor will run until you shut it off.

  14. i'll change everything this morning, i haven't had any problems with there stuff other than their cheap push lock air line connectors leaking, but i have replaced most of them.:)

I have their system on my truck and have noticed a check valve go already. I replaced it and now my compressor runs forever. It is putting a strain on my solenoid (2 have already been replaced) and fills slower.
You put in good compressors yet? If not order some Viairs and that may make a difference.

As far as getting a hold of them, it is tough and they typically don't have any answers anyhow, but phone is best option- then ask for sales and tell them about your problems getting someone's attention.

  17. i replaced the solenoid this morning with a quality unit, tested the pressure switch, drained the tank and gave everything a once over, seems good to go, i will post again if i have any other problems
    thanks to all:)
