ok,this is just a question of opinion.rite now i got my 54 sittin on the stock frame with a mustang II front end with a nova rear axle with the stock springs.i was thinking about boltin up some lowering blocks, but since i'm going to be making this my daily driver when i complete it and move to california,my girl was asking me why i dont go into an air bag set up.i personally dont think it'd be worth doing, but i'd just like to know the opinions of some of you guys.any comments?would it be worth it?how much work is required, cost and any problems down the road?thanx.

Personally, I think it's a good idea to lower the car CHEAPLY in a TRADITIONAL manner (although w/ MII we're already off the mark [IMG]), drive it like that for a while, and then install airbags if you want adjustable suspension.

I drove my car with cut coils and blocks for a year. Then I hit a pothole and ripped the front shock and shock tower apart. In went the airbags. [IMG] Frankly, the ride is no better, but I can go lower and still get back into my garage at the end of the day.

    air ride
This looks like an easy and inexpensive way to go with the rear.

if you wish to go up and down air is one way to go.Wish to hop up n down higher hydros would be it . Now this all depends on budget ,and the ride your wanting to get .Personaly i would rather see 2" drop spindles on the front , maybe change your coils for a change in spring rate. You never said what wheel and tires your running wich can also change your stance and ride .On the rear either change your leafs or go 4 link.Guess .To me set it and your done ,but in the end its your ride and your money.

rite now i'm runnin a set of 15 inch BFGoodriches on vette rally rims.like i said,i'd rather just put blocks on and forget it,i'm just wondering what my options are and how expensive they can be.as for ride,i dont really care, but i would like to still have a driveable car to pull into the garage when i'm done.

    Stick with what you have.

If you're going to put airbags in it for possibly a better ride, I don't think you'll get it. If you want to go up and down, that's cool too, but for me, it got annoying putting it up and down every time I wanted to move the car. Mine had some problems though, so I'm kinda against airbags.

I have a truck with bags and one without...The next one I build will be low all the time...no bags. I hate lifting up 3-4 inches to drive my truck...just my opinion

It's YOUR car, YOUR money, YOUR decision, period.

Personally, I've been in many vehicle with air bag systems, and the ride quality is not as good as stock, but better than a dropped setup.

We recently installed bags on a friend's '86 FS Blazer 2wd. The truck was already dropped with the Belltech 4-6" system, on rally wheels, chrome rings, flat black.

Anyways, the install was simple and took only a few hours to complete. The bags made thr trucks ride MUCH smoother over the Belltech drop.

Anyways, the airide is sweet, i'll be bagging my next cruiser FOR SURE. His truck lays frame, and can be raised to a lowered/drivable height in 1 second, and even raised up to a normal stock appearing height.

anyways, it's your call, some like it, some dont...i think they're cool.

I ***ume your 54 is a car, but either way, if you have a MII setup, there should be enough room that you can run a larger bag than most people use. If you use a larger bag, you can run less air pressure and get more lift. The end result is a better ride and almost 8 inches of lift if done correctly. I'm currently building a truck that gets about 15 inches of lift with 45 PSI in the rear bags. Good luck...

price wise 999.99 can get you a ok setup fb/ss or f/b - brackets those will be about another 150 - 200 c notches are another 75 also and sparkers another 75. but id stay with what you have already .my truck is notched and dropes ok. but im kinda sick of the air ride also .im thinking of putting springs back in the pick up and have it low all the time.itll probally ride the same ither way.

Well, I have both a stock car and one with bags sitting right next to each other. 9 times out of 10 I hop in the non-baged car for daily around town driving

no waiting for the tank, no worries about blowing a line and the ride is better than a baged car... but bagged cars look great laying frame!

it's your coice, but if it's a daily driver, the less **** you have on the car the less it will break down...

I paid right at 1300.00 for my kit from Airride. I have the same set up your have, Stang II and Nova rear with leafs. I asked for the most affordable kit they had. I have their Cool Ride kit up front with Air over leaf on the back and I'm 100% happy. I aslo have 2" dropped spindles up front. When I can afford it I'm going to four link the rear and rais my floor, wheel wells and drive shaft tunnel.

Let me know if you have any more questions I can answer......

I dont understand how everybody can be trashin on bags.. I think and feel that the ride quality of a bagged car is far superior to a "normal" suspension. that said both of my rides use an independant front suspension and LONG rear trailing arms.. I have little knowledge of the air over leaf setups..

either way, i cant see myself building much without bags..

    later

    bags...
