Maybe the right place maybe the wrong place.

My wife hates cars!!!! She is so not a car person. But she knows I am, so she goes along.

When she finally told me she "LIKED" my current car after a year and a half of hating it, I felt like I won the war not just a battle. A sense of relief came over me. Shivers!!!

It was Austin Roundup '06 dragging with the bags almost aired out infront of everyone on Congress.

Bags help turn her to the darkside, so I love 'em!

I think we all spend way too much time worryin' about what we think is cool or not.

Just build the damn thing how ya like it...but...here's how I apply the question to myself.

I wouldn't mind a set of bags one bit, but I don't *need* them. I've had several cars where I just cut the springs and drove the ***** and I kinda like that I can't go just anywhere in them and that I have to drive differently. My kids laugh at me 'cause I gotta go around to the other side of the parkin' lot to get in...yuppies get pissed off at me 'cause I drive slow sometimes in anticipation of an obstacle...soccer moms look at me like I just got caught starin' at their *** as I s****e over speedbumps (or maybe it's 'cause I was starin' at their ***...yeah prob'ly)...anyway...

Bags are practical and completely make sense on any low car. But I have no urge to lay it down on the rockers. I just don't see the point of hackin' up a frame and switchin' to a completely different suspension...or channeling a car...just to get the rockers another inch and a half closer to the ground. Nothin' practical about that is there! Hahaha! Three inches or so between the car and the ground is pretty damned low when ya really stop and think about it, and if that's as low as I get without redesigning the ch***is, then so be it.

That said, I don't mind it at all if I have to look at all the pain in the *** it took *you* to get *your* car how *you* wanted it. Hell that's why I'm here. In the meantime, I'll make mine how *I* want it, and ta hell with whether you guys like it or not. ****in' A I drive a 4 door luxury car that's DAMNED NEAR TOO NEW for a lot of ya so I guess that's OBVIOUS!

    heheheh. Ok carry on...

People said the same thing about chopped tops, flame paint jobs (or any custom paint for that matter), flame throwers, shaved door handles, tuck & roll interiors, fake spot lights, angel hair headliners, etc, etc, etc.

For the most part customs (or kustoms if you must) are all about being impractical. Hot rods, too in some respects. You can't help it if you don't get it. I personally don't like flame throwers because I really like my exhaust valves... but that's just me. But you don't see me inviting every one on here who loves flame throwers to throw rocks at me via the internet.

Bottom line, you like your cars way higher than I do and I like knocking road reflecters off the freeway when I am in the mood to. But when I pull up to a steep *** driveway all I have to do in flick a couple switches and my truck is plenty high enough to make it through without dragging. Best of both worlds if you ask me...

I thought you used them to avoid running over your own engine parts?

You run over your own pushrods once and nobody ever lets you ever forget about it... I see how it is! LOL

  9. Yep-Bags are lame.:D
I think the next big thing will be to cut the rocker panels off so it can be even more ridiculous looking, when parked.

I'm one of those guys that likes em low. Bags just give you an opportunity to ride nice and be low. Its just an option. Low and no bags is fine with me, but I like to float along the freeway and not dread every expansion joint and pothole I see.

Kenny, its already being done. That is crossing the line for me.

If we are shooting for such traditionalism why stop at cars. Lets get Ryan to shut down the HAMB and we'll all go back to Little Books, and the 1st issues of HotRod.

I am happy with my airbags, and prefer them to any sort of non-adjustable.

There is no way you could ever drive on the **** streets in or around Detroit at even 2", so on ****py streets, I air it up. When I'm on smooth streets, I let it have a little pressure, so it has some cushion, but just enough to slightly lift off my bumpstops. It gives it a low, menacing look. It doesn't lay frame, nor do I really want it to, but I'd like it very low, and I'd still like to drive it daily, and get into driveways (I couldn't do it with my car at stock height either, too low, and too long from the "factory").

Only once did I have a bag pop, but I fixed the problem, so it will never happen again. I bought cheap AirLift bags, and they expand like a baloon when you hit bumps, and it tore a small hole in it over time. I replaced them with SlamSpecialty bags, and never had that problem. When it popped, I was riding on the bumpstop all the way home, which was uncomfortable, but left me high enough to keep going.

When I bought my shoebox,it had bags front and back, and would lay right on the side pipes. The problem I had was the front bags leaking all the time.I took the fronts off and replaced them with Chevy S-10 coils, minus 1 1/2 coils.I still have bags on the back,to dump the rear when I park.I prefer the ***dragger look.I will say,it did ride great with bags front and rear though.

    Nice truck.

I did cut the bumpstops a bit, so it sits about 3/4" lower than before, but still has some rubber to dampen the fall. I have thought about step-notching the spring pocket slightly, to get another inch of lowness. Right now, it's about 3" off the ground, and I'd like to aim for 2" in front.

When I do up the 4-link for the rear, I'd like it to lay on the exhaust pipes.

Yeah- you're right. Get rid of that ugly-*** shapeless top, and it'd look a lot better.

Hey - you said it first.

why dos this forum seam to have a love for *****ing about OTHER peoples personal styles ?

airbags give you alot of flexability

parked: lay it on the rockers (or doors, depending)
slow cruising: pick your prefered height
driving on a very smooth road: give yourself 2" of clearance and roll ..
****ty road: jack it up so you dont kill your oil pan
dirt road: jack it up even farther
broken down: raise it up so a normal flat bed can easily load ya up

seriously people, if you feel like crying about what OTHER people in this hobby do, maybe its time to wash the sand out of your ******

you know how may times people on the minitruck boards have made threads about the gusy with imports, or how many times the import / domestiport boards have had threads complaining about the "old school hotrod" guys

time to go to the local forum and make a post about how its retarded to leave an old car bare steel .....

All I can afford for now is cut coils and de-arched springs but you can bet your *** when time and budget allow I willing be bagging my shoe box. I love
low cars and always have. I understand the desire for having the best of both worlds (looks and comfort) and I want it too. As far as posing WTF???
If you didn't care to be PROFILING you would be in a DAE-WOO or Honda. And even the Honda guys like to profile.

    way i figure it -

traditional rods were all about performance. get rid of everything that doesn't make it go faster, and make better everything that does.

traditional customs on the other hand were about style. what do chopped tops, fender skirts and frenched lights have to do with going faster? people actually went slower. so the way i figure it - airbags add to the style, while still preserving the practicality of the car. sure it gives a mini-truck/lowrider style... but who gives a ****, really?
