I might be braggin here but, I use a 1HP Dotco. It's one of my favorite tools. Unless it's a thicker cutting disc (I like the thin ones) it will not stall. Around the shop we named the Bad Mother ****er (jocked from Pulp Fiction). Yeah it's expensive and you get what you pay for. It spent 2 years in my fab shop, 5 1/2 years of nearly everyday use in a prototype fab shop I was at, and now nearly 2 1/2 here.
I got one from Matco tools. #MT1871R. Nicest one I've ever used. Good balance, comfortable to use for extended periods, and it's not loud. Reversible makes it even more handy.
The issue I have with the HF 4" grinders is they get hot and melt the brush holders if you over use them. I have an Royobi (SP?) grinder that runs all day doing hte same thing and only cost $2.00 more.
We use these HF air 4" grinders with a cut off wheel. You can really lean into them and they seldom bog down. My boss buys 4"x 1/16", 3/8" arbor wheels in bulk, and we use the hell out of them. When we wear the wheels down, the remainder works well in the little die grinders. Dave
Funny that you mention the DA thing because my National laid down the other day and I was in a pinch for one so i popped over to the HF and bought one of those blue palm sanders and it has been fantastic. Now 3 months of work is a long ways from the 9 years my National gave me but it is a start.
