Can anyone say if the Edmunds air cleaners are a better choice to flow more air into a trio of Stromberg 97s than the cheap little round ones? I think I read some where that air flow is important with those carbs and those little paper elements I have can make the motor run a little rich, which my motor is.
Hmmmm, gonna have to measure the throat diameter of the Scott tops on my 97's. I hate the original screens that came with them. Thanks for the link Big Duece.
Jim Inglese uses them on some of his Weber IDA builds. Though they dont have a filter like a paper element, they dont restrict air and cause rich condition.
The Hot Rod Company has a few variations as well as Dogslip. I'm using their velocity stacks with above filters on my 6x2 setup. They are again a bit restrictive but I don't want any crud in my engine.
those screens block as much air as the paper filters.... hard to find a small nostalgic looking filter system that doesn't choke the carbs down. I'm running some pretty small jets in my 2x2 setup on my flathead. if I pull off the filters she runs way lean and stumbles
I too, am torn about what to use on my Weber IDA's. Just the least bit of restriction and they go rich real quick. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Carbu...er-for-Stromberg-97-Holley-Ford-94,60439.html Found these, too...
My theory says: u cannot feed an engine 2 much air. Since running “strong” flatheads for over 50 years, I bought a k & n filter designed(I was told) for a flat opposed 6 cyl Porsche. These engines run what I call a triple inlet Weber on each bank. Must work pretty good as I have run .047-.048-.049 main jets in 2 Stromberg 48(little bigger and slightly more flow than it’s little bro—the 97)Most of these carbs run .045 jets as stockers and my 32 cabriolet has run 80 mph in the 1/8 mile running the Edelbrock slingshot and registered 148 hp at the flywheel running a 250 in flat(3 3/4) stroke. Flatheads Forever!!!Notice how tall the filter is!!
I know this is a old post--BUT I've been looking for hours for these type filters and can't find them anywhere, it seem's like they quit selling them---any help appreciated....
Thank You, I'll try Mooneyes right now, LK ******Just looked at there website and it has no description-that they are for a 97 carb, I'll call there Phone when they open this morning.
Ya, just ordered 3 on phone, seller says the foam ain't much to brag about-I might see if I can change the foam for some K&N material, Thanks Joe
