I am trying to keep as much air flow going through my radiator as possible on my 50 merc. The area in front of my radiator on top is wide open, does this mean that air flow through my grill is escaping from this opeaning into the engine compartment instead of through the radiator? Does anyone make a cover for this area so the flow is diverted into the radiator?

That means that at hot idle, in heavy traffic, the engine fan will circulate hot air over the top and back again. A skillfull rodder can make up and radiator diverter with race car aluminum. Start with poster board. Cut, draw, tape, transfer, bend, cut, pop rivet, screw, done!

Any rodder can make up a radiator diverter out of just about anything that's a sheet, such as aluminum, steel, plastic, wood, paper, etc. If you want to see what happens make a test diverter out of cardboard.

  4. I made one for my F-1 out of thin sheetmetal. Rolled a couple beads into it to stiffen it up. Seems to work fine.
