On my 63 Rivi I want to use (1) Viair 480 and (1) 5 gal Tank. Will that be enough for the cars air ride?
Technically, yes, but your re-charge time, with the single compressor will be long. I'd run two 480's.
Yeah the more air you can move the faster the system will respond. Not only 2 compressors but also consider line and valve size.
i had one compressor and it took a long time to fill, two is way beeter for a car like a rivi.resqd37ep,is dead right, the more air you move the better the response
All depends how you use it. If you drop it at the show and lift it up (and leave it up) to drive it. Your good to go.
If you wanna bust a few moves you need the tank to fill up quick. A 5gal tank will get you a fair amount of play time b4 the pressure is too low if you will get a 175 or 200 psi pressure switch. The more powerful compressors the fastest the fill time= more continuos playtime. If you dont care one comp is more than enuff and a smaller tank will do you as well. Also, larger lines and valves= faster moves.
What you need to consider is how fast you wil it to move up and down, I have 3/8 line and think its going too fast up and down (i have autmatic ride height, so if the tank is aired up and i turn it on it will raise to set height, and if i am not yet in the seat i will hit my head in the roof/door. I have one compressor and 5gal tank, and its ok for me (up when i drive, and down when i park) Also ok to know that it beats the hell out of the battery... jumpcables is needed if its a lot of start/stop.
Everyone one is correct more air is faster and more reserve is longer playtime. That said, you can always add another compressor when you can afford it. start with 1 and see if you need 2, I have always ran 2 compressors. In airide bigger is better. Godspeed MrC.
On the air exit, put a plug with a small hole (like 1/16 inch). Unless you want it to drop very fast. I do not do the hopping or other stuff, so on my COE the single 3 gal tank and single compressor is fine. I also have the 1/4 inch lines which is fine speed up for me. The single compressor does take longer to fill the tank to max pressure.
Find a York A/C compressor at the junk yard. They have an electric clutch and can push around 150 psi quick. Wire in a pressure switch and you never have to worry about air or those annoying, LOUD little compressors. Oh, you can also hook up air tools if you put a spare outlet on the tank. Other good ideas- Run filters, run mechanical open/close valves inline in case a solenoid ever sticks or a bag fails, make it easy to get to a line. That way, when they burst or break you can replace them on the road. And last....stainless wrapped sink hose (with the brass ends) available at you local Ace Hardware are rated to 500 psi. They work great and can be replaced on the road easily.
