Airbaggers--share your knowledge. Airbags 101 in session....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by OG lil E, Nov 11, 2004.

  1. After banging my Chevy truck around town for the past coupla weeks, I think I need to put airbags all the way around. It has 3 inch lowered spindles and 3 inch dropped springs in the front. It looks kool, but I hit on everything when I'm driving. I'm already starting to grind down my A-arms! I'm pretty sure I have the rear end figured out, but the front I'm still a little unsure of. I'm familiar with hydros, but I want the great ride that airbags give. I know air bag suspensions have been discussed on here alot, but I've never really seen a discussion about the bags themselves, and that's what I have questions about. There are pretty much two kinds of bags that everyone uses for suspensions. There are the sleeve type, and then there are the bellows style--I think that's what they are called. Anyway, I was wondering what advantages or disadvantages there are associated with each style of bag. Is one style more durable than the other? Does one style give more drop and lift than the other? I'd like to hear as many opinions or comments or personal install experiences as I can get. I want to plan this whole thing out very carefully so I can get it done without too many unexpected problems. As always, thanks for all the advice in advance. In the front on an independant suspension (a-arms)you HAVE to run bellows type bags, because of the angles they go through as the suspension moves. the sleev type have to be almost dead verticle or will bend in half and fail. They do work good in the back, though on over axle applications. They usually give a little more lift at lower psi, so the ride is smooother.

James said it...NEVER use sleeve bags on the front of a independant front end.

There are some HAMB dealers, but you could also check out www.suicidedoors.com he's got a lot of different brackets and other stuff for really good prices, and it's all handbuilt and overbuilt. Some companies sell brackets, 4 links, etc that are REALLY lightweight for real world use.

As said before. Call Jason at Suicidedoors.com he makes a front kit for your truck. I would go with 2600 lb bags in the front. Your options are end less for the rear. PM me wit any questions and I will help you any way I can.

Absolutly...Go with the bellow style in the front..I used Slam Specialties bags all arond....7inch bags front and rear.
That gives me 11 inches of travel, the only thing you have to do open up your spring pockets in the front to allow for A fingers width clearance around the bag..I too have a Friend in SACTO that works at a major distributor..I get excellent prices from him.He works at Fender Bender International!Pm and I'll give you more details and pics of my install!
